China's communication technology is developing rapidly, and wireless access networks are still worth learning. Here we mainly introduce the application of SSID in wireless access technology, this section describes the Multi-SSID functions. The SSID is an essential configuration item for the establishment and application of WLAN wireless LAN. But for many readers who are new to wireless networks, the SSID is so mysterious. What exactly is the SSID? How do I configure wireless applications?

I. What is the SSID?

The SSID is also referred to as ESSID. It is called ServiceSetIdentifier in English ", it can be understood as the "Network Name" or "Working Group name" of the wireless network ".

① Wireless "working group"
The SSID is used to distinguish between different wireless networks. It can contain a maximum of 32 characters. a wireless device in the same LAN can only enter the same network if it is set to the same SSID, in order to communicate with each other, we can simply think of it as the "Working Group" name for wireless networking.

② Have certain security mechanisms
The SSID exists in each wireless access point. It is an essential "key" or password for the wireless client to contact the wireless access point. Using the SSID of the AP or wireless router for access control is an effective security protection mechanism for wireless center devices, it forces each client to have the same SSID value as the wireless center device.

Ii. Set SSID in AP

In APAccessPoint, Wireless Access Node, session point, or access bridge, a wireless router is actually an AP integrated with the Broadband Router function.) How can I set the SSID?

① Use the default settings
By default, you do not need to set the SSID, but use the default settings used by the manufacturer at the factory. In this case, the same model of AP and wireless router have the same SSID number. If there are two AP or wireless routers of the same model in the same wireless region, wireless conflict may occur.
By default, both the AP and the wireless router enable the "allow SSID broadcast" function. This function can broadcast the SSID numbers of the AP and the wireless router to computers in the wireless network, a computer with a wireless network card can automatically scan the SSID Number of the AP and wireless router through its default wireless signal automatic scanning settings, and can automatically add the wireless network with this ssid id.

② Disable "allow SSID broadcast"
Through the default settings of Wireless AP and wireless router, we can use the wireless function without any configuration. Of course, this setting is also safe. For a wireless network that uses the "allow SSID broadcast" and the factory default SSID name, any computer or other smart devices with wireless network adapters, such as smart phones, that are covered by the wireless network signal, can automatically access the network through this function. If you are a malicious hacker or a fake hacker, you can easily steal valuable information. For users who require security, how should we set this? The method is simple, that is, disable the default "allow SSID broadcast" function of the device. In this way, the wireless client computer must enter the correct "SSID" on the client computer before accessing the Wireless Access Network, this ensures the security of wireless networks to a certain extent.

③ Modify the default SSID name
The default SSID name of the AP and wireless router of the same model and even the same manufacturer is the same, for example, the wireless router with the highest popularity in China, its factory default SSID is "TP-LINK", so, although the allow SSID broadcast feature is disabled, other wireless clients using the default settings for wireless routers that are also connected to the TP-LINK can still easily access your wireless network.

In addition, there is another security problem, that is, if there are two or more wireless routers of the same manufacturer nearby, it is very likely that your wireless client will unconsciously connect to the same SSID network with a stronger neighbor signal, which brings you security risks. Not to mention, even if you do not broadcast the SSID, some experienced wireless "network, you can also enter "TP-LINK", "linksys", "SMC" and other common wireless router manufacturers name, access your wireless network. Therefore, when setting the AP and wireless router, You 'd better change the default SSID name from the factory to your easy-to-remember name, in this way, other users cannot simply guess the SSID number to connect to your wireless network, reducing the chance of being hacked.

3. Set the SSID in the NIC

The general trend of wireless applications is to be foolish. After a driver is installed for a wireless Nic, no configuration is required by default, you can automatically access a wireless network that allows SSID broadcasting. The reason for this convenience comes from the "ANY" function that automatically accesses ANY wireless access point, and the "WZCWirelessZeroConfig, Wireless Zero Configuration" function provided by new operating systems such as Windows XP and Vista.

Iv. Multi-SSID Functions

It is worth noting that many enterprise-level Wireless AP and home wireless routers have begun to support the Multi-SSID check SSID or Multi-SSID, also known as multipleSSID) function, this feature allows an AP or wireless router to implement wireless network functions that can be achieved by more than two APs. The main purpose of Multi-SSID is to enable wireless terminals to access networks in different security authentication and encryption modes, which can help enterprises implement hierarchical isolation management for wireless access networks. In addition, the Multi-SSID function also provides the authentication function for different domains. The domain name can be bound with the SSID, allowing users to enter or select a domain name when logging on to the webpage. Some enterprise-level wireless APS support up to 16-32 SSID broadcasts and can assign different authentication, encryption, QoS, and VLAN policies to each SSID. In a specific application, you can use this function to broadcast two or more SSID pairs on an AP or a wireless router, and the two SSID pairs belong to two VLANs.

In this way, you only need to install an AP or a wireless router to implement the so-called dual-AP or multi-AP function. For example, after an SSID is published to a public user and the public user connects to the SSID, VLAN2 is automatically added and wireless users are isolated from each other. The other SSID disables the Broadcast Function and only notifies internal office staff. After the staff connects to the SSID, automatically add VLAN1 to further enhance the security of the internal office wireless network, internal use of wireless network users to enable WPA-PSK and other methods of encryption.
