Get out of the misunderstanding of IT administrators and IT engineers

First, let's take a look at the perception of IT administrators and IT engineers in China. My mom once told me that there were eight "Eight members" in China in 1960s. I forgot the eight members, but I remember there were nurses and conductor. No matter what the remaining six are, they have a unified rule that is service-oriented. Second, traditional State-Owned Enterprises allocate human resources like this. First, they are divided into mental workers and physical workers, that is, the so-called cadres and workers. Apart from the division of duties, in terms of personnel archives and other requirements, the levels of cadres are defined by titles. XX personnel-XX assistant engineer-XX senior engineer said strictly that "employee" is not a title, but a preliminary work stage of the cadre class. An equivalent educational institution has the title of lecturer-Associate Professor-Professor. A research institution is a researcher (equivalent to a senior engineer. How are these titles assessed. This is the case in traditional industries. Based on your academic qualifications and years of work experience, you can determine if you are qualified. After passing the qualification examination, you can obtain the corresponding title. (The title evaluation examination is generally a professional skill test and title English examination.) First, I will introduce the title evaluation of an industry. Formal employee after entry. Technical secondary school, high school degree, full-time employee evaluation of assistant engineer title after four years. (Only assistant can be assessed, and a higher level requires a bachelor's degree.) After a junior college degree is 1 year later, the title of assistant engineer is assessed. After four years, the assistant engineer will evaluate the title of the Engineer (the assistant engineer does not need to pass the title evaluation, but the engineer needs to). The engineer's title should be evaluated for more than five years (the title evaluation ). Of course, different industries have different evaluation standards.

This is just an example I know. Next, let's look at the IT industry. The title of the IT industry is different from that of some traditional industries. In fact, the process is reversed. After passing the examination, the certificate can be used as the basis for evaluation when the company has a place after holding the certificate. That is to say, if you have a certificate, you will not be evaluated in the company. There is an interesting place to be evaluated. The previous evaluation must be carried out from low to high. However, during the examination, you can skip the preliminary examination and take an intermediate or advanced examination without any restrictions on the degree of education. This has created a result that many people are moving forward. Therefore, many people think that engineers are senior administrators.

Now let's take a look at the situation of IT administrators and IT engineers outside China. Because the computer is a good product, the popularization of the computer industry outside China (especially in developed countries, not only earlier than us, but also more clearly recognized) has a wide definition of IT administrators outside China. In fact, computer network technology is divided into two major parts: network formation and network management. The establishment of the network is clear to everyone, which is equivalent to a traditional project. So the people who do this part are called engineers. Network management is complex, including the maintenance, optimization, and upgrade of the company's network. IT administrators. Engineers in foreign countries, especially in developed countries, have a high threshold. In addition to a required degree (note that it is a degree rather than a degree), they also need professional engineer qualifications and are incorporated into the law. The person engaged in computer-related engineering is Engineer. The water products of senior administrators and engineers in foreign countries, who are engaged in computer-related management in various companies, cannot be compared horizontally because they have different focuses. A company like MS is hiring a senior system administrator. It may take about 10 years of work experience. You can see in some original computer books you purchased that many authors write network administaor or system administrator jobs. It can be seen that the foreign administrator is not the preliminary stage of domestic engineers. In addition, it should be noted that the term Administrator does not exist in foreign countries. Many books in China translate administrators into administrators. To solve this problem, I accidentally asked a friend who was very proficient in English. He said to me, "fat, you can look up the English-Chinese dictionary and see what the Chinese meaning is ?" After I checked it, I found that there was no "Administrator" annotation in English translation. The standard translation is "managers, administrative staff ". If you are interested in "administrator" = "administrator" during English translation, you can look at the dictionary now.

In China, the Administrator is despised by many people except for the above "The Administrator is the engineer's initial stage", especially the network management (Network Administrator = Internet cafe administrator = tea, water pouring, restart a machine) another important reason is that "Administrators" are recognized as passive service personnel. Many administrators in China provide a service. In particular, some junior administrators, or beginners, do not have the "management" permission because of lack of experience, limited capabilities, and senior corporate cognition. What is administrator? What does a tmanager manage? Of course it is not a person. If it is a person, it is the boss or manager. The Administrator is the highest permission assignment on the enterprise network. Unlike Internet cafes, you have different network permissions. Therefore, assigning permissions based on your company needs is your power and obligation. However, some administrators do not have such permissions. The Administrator is an IT service expert. You must be familiar with your company's various IT products. Whether IT is software or hardware, IT is necessary to provide guidance to enterprises when necessary. After all, your company's colleagues are not professionals in this field. Even some program developers may not understand the system. (In fact, they are more familiar with some system details) But you must know more about what the system can provide and some common problems of the system. The Administrator is the bodyguard of the Information Service. It is your content to maintain various databases, system products, and ensure that information resources are read. As the work is refined, the Administrator may engage in professional work. Such as database management, storage system management, security management, and professional system management. O & M of some products. In fact, from the most basic aspect, we cannot break away from the maintenance and management work. In any case, in a sense, the latter is only more professional than the former, with a single job and the same in the work field. The same is true for engineers. With the complexity and scalability of the project, network engineers and System Engineers are responsible for network construction. (WINDOWS System Engineers and LINUX System engineers may also be detailed based on the platform) Storage System Engineers and security engineers...

Another interesting aspect is the misunderstanding of Chinese people on administrators and engineers. Take the Cisco and Microsoft certifications that I personally are familiar. Let's talk about Cisco certification first. In fact there are a lot of Chinese people are most familiar with the CCNA-CCNP-CCIE series. The order and level are arranged from low to high. Let's talk about a fun phenomenon first. CCNP must pass CCNA, while CCIE can be obtained directly. Many people know this. I have not read any related tutorials, and I have never taken any tests. However, I personally think that CCNP is an upgraded version of NA. In fact, the knowledge of CCNP for administrators is enough. If you want to work in network engineering, it is best to use CCIE. As far as I know, the content of CCIE is actually closer to project implementation. The knowledge of CCNP is sufficient for enterprise network management. The most important thing is that a lot of experience can be obtained only by books, and must be practiced. Therefore, I think Cisco's direct access to CCIE is based on some friends who are engaged in network engineering. As I mentioned earlier, it is more difficult to work in foreign countries than in China, so I feel that there are not many people who have obtained the CCIE certificate abroad. Next, let's look at the authentication of MS. Similarly, take MCSA and MCSE of 2003 for example. The same is true. SA-based authentication is enough. To engage in system engineering, you need SE. In addition, SE has several more courses than SA, basically describing the formation of forests, trees, and domains. There are two basic courses in SA. SE naturally needs to learn. However, for complex troubleshooting, if you have not been engaged in a management position for many years, SE may not be able to handle the problem.

To sum up, I personally think that there is still a long way to go in China's informatization construction. Although the information infrastructure in China is far from that in developed countries, there is still a long gap in information management. Both practitioners and enterprises must re-recognize IT managers. Enterprises must clarify your needs, while professionals should clarify your direction so that everyone can benefit from each other. I have seen some people say that administrators or engineers are important? Money is the most important thing. I think this is a wrong idea. If you are not clear about these problems, how can you plan your own life?
