In this section, you will learn how to grant administrative permissions to other database users. An administrator is a database user defined in the management information base that can log in to Enterprise Manager to perform administrative tasks. The scope of the administrative tasks provided in Enterprise Manager depends on the permissions and roles assigned to the administrator.

Perform the following steps to grant administrative permissions to other database users:
1.
Click Setup at the top of the Database home page.

2.
Displays the Administrators list. Click Create to create a new Enterprise manager user by assigning administrative rights to an existing database user. Displays the Create administrator:properties page.

In this step, you will grant administrative rights to the HR user. Enter the following values:

Name:hr

Password:hr

Note: You can select an existing database user from the pop-up window by clicking the flashlight icon adjacent to the Name field.

Click Finish.

4.
Displays the Create Administrator:review page. Click Finish.

5.
The Administrators page appears again, and the new administrator is included in the list of administrators.

Defining the interrupt Cycle
Return to List of topics

When you plan to interrupt your database for maintenance, you can specify that you do not want to receive alert notifications by defining a break cycle. Interrupts also allow you to pause monitoring to perform other maintenance operations. You can define a break time period in Enterprise Manager Database control by performing the following steps:
1.
Click Setup at the top of the Database home page.

2.
The Setup page appears. Click Blackouts in the left pane.

3.
The Blackouts page appears. Click Create to start the Create Blackout Wizard.

4.
Enter a name for the interrupt in the Name field. You can also add a comment in the Comments field, although it is not a required field. Select Enter a new reason to enter a reason for the interrupt. Select Database in the Type drop-down menu in the Available Targets area. Select the database, and then click Move.

5.
Your database is now listed as a Selected Target. Click Next.

6.
The Create blackout:schedule page appears. Enter the start time of the interrupt you planned, or select immediately if you want to close the database immediately. Select the duration of the interrupt, either indeterminate, a length of time, or a certain time in the future. Accept the default does not Repeat, or select a repeat frequency in the Drop-down menu. Click Next.

7.
The Create blackout:review page appears. Carefully review the information you entered, and then click Finish. If you need to modify a setting, you can click Back.

8.
A confirmation message is received.

Set a preferred certificate
Return to List of topics

You can set a preferred certificate so that Enterprise Manager can automatically provide you with host and database logon certificates when you schedule jobs and tasks for administrative operations, such as backup and recovery. For security reasons, Oracle stores the preferred certificate in encrypted mode. You can set a preferred certificate in Enterprise Manager Database control by performing the following steps:
1.
Click the Preferences at the top of the Database home page.

2.
The Preferences page appears. Click Preferred Credentials in the left pane.

3.
The preferred Credentials page appears. Click the icon under the Set Credentials of the database Target Type.

4.
The Database preferred Credentials page appears. Enter a certificate in the form of a username and password for normal, SYSDBA, and host connections. Click Test.

5.
You receive a message confirming that the certificate verification is complete. Click Apply to save your preferred certificate.
