The first is hardware.

Pay attention to the following points when selecting the video server hardware:

1. High-frequency CPU is not required.

Video Servers provide continuous I/O operations. CPU resource usage is not large. based on my experience, the PIII500 CPU is competent for Internet cafes with 50 machines.

2. High Stability.

High stability is very important. Video Servers generally start up for 10 days-more than one month. if the machine is down when the guests are interested, it is not good for their own Internet cafe image. if you have a high budget, you can choose a 64-bit bandwidth server motherboard, which is very helpful for continuous and a large number of I/O operations.

However, this type of motherboard generally costs more than 2000 Yuan. From the perspective of budget, this is somewhat expensive. therefore, it is generally an ordinary PC motherboard that has a good reputation or your confidence in its stability. do not chase new models. I recommend two motherboard models, meijie 6BA + IV, AbitBH6. these two models are old BX motherboard, the price may be 600-700 yuan or less. but its stability is impeccable.

3. storage subsystem.

The storage subsystem is the key to video servers.

To adapt to a large number of I/O operations on the video server for a long time, the system and video files share a hard disk is never desirable. you must use a separate disk or disk array to store video files. if you select a server board with a SCSI interface when selecting a motherboard, you can consider using a SCSI hard disk. of course, the cost is high. the price of a 30 gb scsi hard disk is about 2700. so we chose ide raid. for more information about RAID, see relevant documents.

Both highpointtech and promise provide us with suitable raid products. generally, products with a market price of more than 400 yuan can be well suited to such a work environment. be sure not to purchase some "soft" Raid cards. Although the price is lower, they have poor performance and consume a lot of system resources. iwill's SIDE RAID100 is a good choice. we recommend that you use a 5400 RPM hard disk model. the reason is that after RAID is used to create an IDE array, the overall disk performance will be n times that of a single hard disk. this depends on the number of your hard disks.

7200-to-hard drive for a long period of operation is too high, and its performance is higher than 5400-to-hard drive performance, after RAID amplification is useless. the price is significantly higher than 5400. this is the reason for not using 7200 to hard drive.

Using IDE Raid requires at least two hard disks. Adding a hard disk to install the operating system will cost you

If your budget is tight, you can discard the ide raid and use only one 7200 RPM hard disk to store video files. note: I strongly recommend that you do not place the operating system and video files on the same hard disk.

4. Network

Do not use a cheap 8139 class Nic. We recommend that you use Intel 10/100 M Pro +. About $250.

The video server should be connected to the trunk switch in the Internet cafe.

If you are still using a 10 m network, you should first upgrade your network.

Software section.

1. Operating System Win2000 Server or Advanced Server version. (If you can use Linux or FreeBSD to build a platform, you do not need to continue reading this article .)

2. Web Server IIS5.0

3. Streaming Media Server RealServer8.0 + and Windows Media Server

Install Win2000. IIS is installed by default when W2k is installed. you only need to select the Web service, public documents, and server management components. media Server is not installed by default. remember to select it. install the system on the hard disk specially prepared for the system, and place the streaming media file on the hard disk or hard disk array specially prepared for the streaming media file. create a directory named Media, which serves as the loading point of RealServer. it is better not to put other things here.

RealServer has to be downloaded in many places. with 10 user licenses. during installation, press Enter. At last, you need to set the user name and password for the management interface. after the installation is complete, two icons are generated on the desktop. run RealServer 8.0 Administrator

Enter the configuration page. At this time, you need to enter the user password, which you set during installation.

Choose Configure --> General Setup --> Connection Control, and change the Maximum Client Connections settings to the Maximum number of licenses supported by you. Maximum Licensed Client is the Maximum number of licenses you have.

Configure --> General Setup --> Mount Points, fill in the name of the virtual directory you want to access the video stream in the box below the Edit Mount Point, for example, Movie, enter/Movie/and enter the local path of your video file in the box below BasePath. Assume It is E :\\ Media, then enter E :\\ Media. click Edit and then Apply. the pop-up operation tells you that the modification is successful and you need to restart the RealServer. restart. click Restart Server.20 at the top of the page to Restart the server. now, copy any rm video file to e: \ Media \\,

We suppose it is 01. rm. Then assume that your IP address is 192.168.1.118. Start RealPlayer, select the open location from the File menu, and enter rtsp: // 192.168.1.118/Movie/01.rm to confirm.

If there is nothing unexpected, you will see that RealPlayer is buffering, and it starts playing in a few seconds. go back to the configuration page of RealServer and click Monitor to view the running status of RealServer. player connected shows the number of user connections and File Usage shows the number of different streaming files on demand. the CPU usage displays the RealserverCPU usage, Memory usage displays the Memory usage, and bandwidth usage indicates the bandwidth usage.

So far, the Streaming Media Server of RealServer has been installed.
