March 2 News, production of online photo editor website Picnik announced in Monday that the company will be acquired by Google.

This photo editor is directly compatible with online photo galleries such as Flickr, Facebook, and Picasa Web albums. Users can upload files to the service and then download the photos from the Web site when they are finished editing. The editorial capabilities offered by this service are a natural addition to the Picasa Web site, although the technology seems to be mismatched: Picnik uses flash for editing, and most Google apps use slower javascript. However, Google is using its local client technology to improve JavaScript performance.

Neither Picnik nor Google has disclosed the financial terms of the deal in its own blog. Flickr site defaults to using Picnik. It would be interesting to see how Yahoo, the parent company of Flickr, deals with its new owner, its preferred photo-editing site.
