Grub&lilo

GNU grub and Grub are abbreviations for the Grand Unified bootloader, which is a multiple operating system startup manager. Used to guide different systems, such as Windows,linux.

In the X86 architecture of the machine, the Linux, BSD or other Unix-class operating systems grub, LILO is the most common, should be said to be the mainstream.

Windows also has similar tools ntloader, for example, after we install Windows 98 in the machine, we install a Windows XP, and a menu in the machine boot lets us choose whether to enter Windows 98 or Windows XP. Ntloader is a multiple system Boot manager, and Ntloader can also boot Linux, which is just a hassle.
In a PowerPC architecture machine, if the PowerPC version of Linux is installed, most of them are yaboot multiple boot managers, such as the IBM PowerPC processor used by Apple, so if you want to install MacOS and Linux on the Apple machine Powerpc version, mostly using Yaboot to boot multiple operating systems.
Because the X86 architecture is still in the mainstream, grub and Lilo are still our most common multiple operating system boot managers.

===================================

LILO(Linux LOader), Lilo represents the Linux loader. Lilo is a program that runs when the system starts, allowing you to select the operating system that is used to boot the computer.

You can use Lilo to boot several different operating systems, such as Linux and MS-DOS. With Lilo, you can define a default operating system to boot and a delay time to boot the operating system.

For example, if you have MS-dos and Linux on your computer, you can configure Lilo to boot either of them, and then tell Lilo that if you don't have a keyboard in 30 seconds, you're booting MS-dos in both; if within 30 seconds the keyboard's ctrl, ALT, Shift, Caps When any of the keys in lock is pressed, the boot appears and the TAB key is pressed to obtain a list of the Lilo-booted operating system. When you configure Lilo, you can specify all of these actions. Most new computers have a boot loader installed for some versions of Microsoft Windows or Mac OS. If your computer uses a Linux operating system, you must install a special boot loader. Lilo is popular among users who use Linux as their primary or unique operating system. When a computer that installs Lilo in the usual way is started or restarted, the basic Input Output system (BIOS) takes some initial tests and then transfers control of the master Boot Record (MBR) where Lilo resides. The main advantage of Lilo is that it can quickly start the Linux operating system installed in the master boot record. The main limitation of Lilo is that not all computers tolerate modifying the master boot Record (MBR). In this case, you can use Lilo in other ways, but it takes a long time. Several boot-loading (boot loader) programs can be used to start LINux systems, such as Loadlin (LOAD LINux) and Grub (Grand Unified Bootloader).
