Highlights of San Francisco LinuxWorld Conference Desktop Linux

May August 9: Three years ago, almost no one considered using Linux on the company's desktop. But today, as more and more enterprise IT plans and systems are considering or adopting Linux, IT is now logical for Linux to enter the desktop.

At the LinuxWorld Conference and Exhibition held in San Francisco in August 2-5, various new Desktop Linux Solutions became one of the focuses. Vendors announced the recent victory over Microsoft Windows in Munich, Germany and elsewhere.

Dan Kusnetsky, an analyst at IDC, believes that Linux can enter the desktop market in several ways. Consumers who are interested in abandoning the Windows operating system may regard Linux as a viable alternative, as long as Linux can meet their needs to access the Internet, send and receive emails, and use Web applications.

Software developers that do not rely on the platform may also use Linux for Windows, as long as they have appropriate software tools to compile applications, and the price is reasonable. Any operating system that provides common applications such as Web browsers, Java virtual machines, and reliable email proxies can satisfy the needs of most staff, therefore, various organizations may use Linux as the underlying client operating environment.

More than 190 vendors from LinuxWorld participated in the event. IBM, HP, Novell and Their SuSE Linux departments, Red Hat, Intel, CA, Dell, Oracle, and others all presented the latest Linux products and product implementation strategies.
