In order to save Internet access fees and improve work efficiency, many people share the Internet with multiple computers by using the ADSL routing function. However, if you want to enjoy Internet access through ADSL, you also need to learn the proper adjustment of ADSL from the details.
On-demand combination of hardware devices
The "match" mentioned here refers to whether the ADSL Broadband modem works with a vswitch or a hub. Although both of them can achieve Internet sharing, however, they have different online effects. Generally, when an ADSL Broadband modem is used with a hub, the broadcast mode is used. In this mode, any port of the hub will affect other ports when it is working, if multiple ports of the Hub work at the same time, the network performance of each port will be seriously affected. The phenomenon is that data packet loss is serious and the network response speed is slow; all the ports of the hub can only work in half duplex mode, and each port shares the bandwidth. If the ADSL Broadband modem and the switch are used together, communication between each port will not affect other ports, and each port will enjoy dedicated bandwidth, it can work in both full and half duplex modes. More importantly, when the ADSL Broadband modem and the switch are used together, the switch can automatically process the signal fragments generated during the data transmission process, thus improving the information transmission efficiency.
In practice, we should select a matching method based on the purpose of accessing the Internet. If shared Internet access is used only for simple file sharing and transmission, and the number of workstations sharing Internet access is not too large, you can consider using the Internet access method with the ADSL Broadband modem and hub, after all, this method is relatively economical and has little impact on the speed of small-scale LAN Internet access. If shared Internet access is often used to process large amounts of data and the lan network size is large, we recommend that you use an ADSL Broadband modem and a vswitch to access the Internet, because this method can efficiently transmit data. Of course, if we have ample resources, we should try our best to use the latter method to facilitate future expansion and upgrade.
Billing method impact settings
If you use the pay-as-you-go billing method, you must correctly set the working method of the ADSL Broadband modem, and want it to automatically detect whether there is an Internet connection request, if not, it is best to disconnect the current network. If we use the monthly subscription method, there is no need for the ADSL Broadband modem to automatically detect Internet connection requests, because this method is not subject to time constraints, we should prevent the ADSL Broadband modem from automatically disconnecting the network to improve the efficiency of Internet sharing.
When setting the preceding settings, follow these steps: Right-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop and click the "attribute" command from the shortcut menu, open the network connection List window. In this window, right-click the ADSL Broadband dialing icon and click the "properties" command from the shortcut menu to open the ADSL dialing Parameter Setting dialog box; click the "options" tab in the dialog box to go To the tab page shown in 1. If you change the "idle time before hanging up" parameter to "never, this can prevent the ADSL Broadband modem from automatically disconnecting the network. This parameter is suitable for monthly subscription Internet access. If you change the "idle time before suspension" parameter to a specific value, if the ADSL Broadband modem cannot detect the existence of a network connection for a certain period of time, it will automatically disconnect the network connection, which can effectively save the cost of Internet connection, this parameter setting method is applicable to the on-time billing method.
Network Connection knowledge
No matter whether the ADSL Broadband modem works with a hub or a vswitch, you must first prepare the network cable and connect it with the network cable. However, when using different standard network cables for connection operations, the specific connection methods are different. If you do not pay attention to the differences in network connections, it is very likely that the purpose of ADSL Internet sharing cannot be achieved.
Under normal circumstances, the purchased ADSL Broadband modem will give a random network cable, which is usually a cross-network cable, that is, one end of the network cable is produced according to the 568B wiring standard, the other end of the network cable is produced according to the 568A wiring standard. However, when observing whether the network cable belongs to a crossover network cable, you only need to place the RJ45 connectors at both ends of the network cable side by side, then carefully observe the wiring in the connector. If the two ends are completely the same, it is definitely not a crossover network cable, but a parallel network cable. If the two ends are different, it should be a crossover network cable. When you connect an ADSL Broadband modem to a vswitch or a hub using a crossover network cable, you should insert the RJ45 connector at one end of the network cable into the lanport of the ADSL Broadband modem, insert the RJ45 connector at the other end of the network cable to the UPLINK port of the switch or hub. When using a parallel network cable to connect the ADSL Broadband modem to a switch or hub, you should insert the RJ45 connector at one end of the network cable into the lanport of the ADSL Broadband modem, insert the RJ45 connector at the other end of the network cable to the port other than the "UPLINK" of the switch or hub. That is to say, the other end of the network cable must be connected to the common port of the switch or hub, for other computers that share Internet access, you only need to use parallel lines to connect to the common port of the switch or hub.
Tip: A crossover network cable is usually used to connect switches or hubs that support cascade functions, and their cascade ports are usually shared with the first or last port, therefore, once the cross-connection method is used, the first or last port cannot be used. A parallel network cable is usually used to connect switches or hubs that do not support cascade functions.
