How do I close a Word document to automatically add item numbers
1, Start Word 2013, Open the Word Options dialog box, select the proofing option on the left, and click the AutoCorrect Options button in the AutoCorrect Options field in the right pane, as shown in Figure 1.

2, open the AutoCorrect dialog box, switch to the AutoFormat As You Type tab, uncheck the Automatic bulleted list check box in the Automatically apply on Type field, and then cancel the check box for the AutoNumber list checkbox. When you finish setting up, click OK to close the dialog box, as shown in Figure 2. Then click OK to close the Word Options dialog box, and Word will not automatically add item numbers and bullets.

Tips
In Word, if you set a bullet or item number in a paragraph, Word automatically applies the bullet or item number format to the next line when you press Enter after a paragraph. At this point, press the "Backspace" key or press the "enter" Key 2 times to delete the automatically applied bullets and AutoNumber formats.
