How MySQL handles an overflow disk

When a disk overflow occurs, MySQL does the following things:

It checks every minute to see if there is enough space to write to the current line. If there is enough room, it continues as if something had happened.

Every 6 minutes it writes warnings about disk overflows to the log file.

To mitigate this problem, you can take the following actions:

Continue, you only need to free up enough free disk space to insert all the records.

To discard threads, you must send a mysqladmin kill to the thread. The next time the disk is checked, the thread will be discarded (within 1 minutes).

Note that other threads may be waiting for a table that causes a "disk overflow" condition. If you have several "locked" threads, killing the thread that is waiting for the disk overflow condition will allow other threads to continue.
