How the Aliyun server unloads and releases the data disk

Cloud Server ECS supports the unloading of a common cloud disk, an efficient cloud disk, and an SSD cloud disk used as a data disk. You can choose to uninstall from the instance portal, or mount from a disk entry, which makes no difference, and you can choose any one of these actions. The following are described separately.

Note the following questions:

You can only unload the data disk and you cannot uninstall the system disk .

The local disk cannot be uninstalled.

The early normal cloud disk does not support uninstall operations. Please change the normal cloud disk into a separate cloud disk in the late renewal, and then unload and mount the operation.

When unloading a data disk, note the following:

Under Windows operating systems, to ensure data integrity, it is recommended that you suspend read and write operations on all file systems for that disk, or that data that is not finished reading or writing will be lost.

Under the Linux operating system, you need to log on to the disk in the instance of the Unmount command-line operation, the command after successful execution and then enter the console to uninstall the disk operation.

Uninstall by instance

Log on to the Cloud Server Management Console.

Click an instance in the left menu. Then select the region at the top of the page.

Click the instance name that you want to uninstall the disk to, or click Manage on the right side of the instance page.

Click this instance disk in the menu on the left. A disk that is already mounted on the instance is displayed on this page.

Click the disk you want to uninstall.

In the upper-right corner of the page, click Uninstall .

In the dialog box that pops up, click Confirm Uninstall .

Uninstall by disk

Log on to the Cloud Server Management Console.

Click the Disk in the menu on the left. Then select the region at the top of the page.

Click the name of the disk you want to uninstall. The status of the disk must be in use .

Click Uninstall in the upper-right corner of the page.

In the dialog box that pops up, click Confirm Uninstall .

Releasing a data disk

If you no longer need a data disk, you can save money by releasing the data disk after you uninstall it.

  Attention:

Only the volume-paid data disks can be released. Package Annual monthly data disk with the host purchase, does not support uninstall release.

After the data disk is released, your manual snapshot is retained, but the automatic snapshots are deleted with the data disk and are not recoverable, so be careful .

To maintain a sufficient snapshot amount to successfully complete the periodic automatic snapshot policy, you can remove unwanted manual snapshots and automatic snapshots.

To free a data disk:

Log on to the Cloud Server Management Console.

Verify that the instance where the data disk is located has stopped.

Click the Disk in the menu on the left. Locate the name of the data disk you want to uninstall.

On the right side of the data disk, click more > release . Then confirm the release disk.
