When the Windows XP operating system was released, what Microsoft had been trying to do was to make it dumbfounded-by adding a variety of ringtones and referrals to help users avoid troubles. One of them is the warning of insufficient disk capacity (low disk space notification ). Although it is useful, it is annoying in most cases. This section describes how to disable this warning.

First, why is there this warning?
As the name suggests, the system prompts insufficient disk capacity to notify users when the disk capacity is about to be used. Especially for the primary system drive, this is very important to avoid data loss caused by full disk storage. If this occurs when the user's primary system drive is working, it will cause system swap file space overflow. In turn, the system may fail to properly load or exit the program. When idle disk space is used up, the system crashes and data is lost.

With the decrease in free disk space, Windows XP will become increasingly annoying. When the available disk space is less than MB, Windows XP will remind you each time you start. If the available disk space is less than 80 Mb, XP will notify you once every four hours until the available disk space exceeds 80 Mb. Once less than 50 MB, XP will disturb you once every 5 minutes until this situation is eliminated.

If you set that the user has a separate data disk drive on the workstation, and the importance of preventing disk space overflow, the frequent insufficient capacity warning will greatly reduce the work efficiency. The operating system does not need to repeatedly remind users of the small amount of space they have known. At the same time, frequent reminders may cause sharp deterioration of system performance on systems with system configurations approaching or under the minimum configuration conditions. Because XP will spend time checking idle disks, and these times will be applied to other tasks.

Disable warning
You need to modify the system registry to disable this warning. Start Registry Editor: Select "run" in the "Start" menu, enter "Regedit" in the text box, and click "OK ". After the Registry Editor is opened, search for the following entries in the left column:

Hkey current user/software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/policies/Explorer

In the right column, view the key value named nolowdiskspacechecks. If this value exists, it should be set to 0, which is also the default value of this key. Double-click the key name to change it. You can view the edit string interface, enter 1 in the value area, and click OK ".

If this key value does not exist, you need to add this key value. Select "New | DWORD Value" in the edit menu ". The new value will appear on the right and prompt you to enter the key name. Enter nolowdiskspacechecks and press Enter. Make sure that you do not use spaces between words. This is a long variable name.

Double-click the new key value. You can see the Edit DWORD Value screen. In the value area, enter 1 and click "OK ". When you complete the preceding steps, the Registry screen should be:

Close the registry. Your modifications to the Registry are automatically saved. Restart the computer. When your computer restarts, the annoying reminders have passed. But remember to remind users whether their computer disk space is full.

Windows 9x is better than XP
In most cases, Windows XP includes more features and is easier to use than Windows 98. However, this is an exception. Although Windows 98 does not have an accurate warning of insufficient disk space, it can automatically start the Disk Cleanup Wizard when the system finds that the space is about to be used up. In Windows 98, it is much easier to disable disk space insufficiency by disabling this feature.

You can click Start | programs | accessories | System Tools | disk cleanup to disable disk space insufficiency in Windows 98 and receive a warning. When the disk cleanup window appears, click the settings tab. B.

Remove "if this drive runs low ......" Select the check box, and then click OK. Now you can check the disk space on your own without worrying that Windows will make a decision for you. (Responsible editor: Liu yanzhi)
