How to install a lightweight Budgie desktop (v8) on Ubuntu 14.04)

Budgie is the flagship desktop customized for the Linux release, and is also a custom project. Designed for an avant-garde user, it is committed to simplicity and conciseness. One of its major advantages is that it is not the fork version of other projects, and is independent from the whole to the end.

The Budgie desktop is closely integrated with the GNOME stack and uses advanced technologies to provide an alternative desktop experience. Out of the open-source concept, this desktop can be seen in other Linux releases.

Currently, Budgie can use panel settings to provide a similar experience as GNOME2 desktop.

Install

Now we will install our lightweight Budgie desktop in Ubuntu14.04 LTS. First, we need to add the PPA source to our Ubuntu. Run the following command:

  1. $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:evolve-os/ppa

After the ppa is added, run the following command to update the local software repository.

  1. $ sudo apt-get update

Then, you only need to execute the following command to install

  1. $ sudo apt-get install budgie-desktop

Note:

This is an active development version, and some major features may not be particularly well-developed, such as: No network manager or volume control components (you can use a keyboard to control the volume ), the system is not notified and the app cannot be locked to the taskbar.

There is a temporary solution to disable the stacked scroll bar: Set another default topic, and then exit the current session from the terminal:

  1. $ gnome-session-quit

Log on to the Budgie session

After the installation is complete, we can log on to the budgie desktop.

Cancel current user
  1. $ budgie-sessioon --logout

Conclusion

Hi, now we have successfully installed the lightweight Budgie desktop environment on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The Budgie desktop is currently under development, so many features are missing.
