How to install Ubuntu11.10 on a hard disk in a WinXP system

Preparation:

1. one computer (operating system: Windows XP)

2. Ubuntu11.10 iso image file, which I downloaded is ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso (renamed ubuntu. iso for ease of use before installation) Grub4Dos, compression software (just extract files in iso ).

Start:

1. copy grldr, grldr.mbr, grub.exe, and menu. lst in grub4dosto the C: \ (system disk) root directory (see)

2. open menu. lst (open with notepad) and add the following statement.

Root (hd0, 0)
Kernel (hd0, 0)/vmlinuz boot = casper iso-scan/filename =/Ubuntu. iso roquiet splash locale = zh_CN.UTF-8
Initrd (hd0, 0)/initrd. lz

Note: filename =/Ubuntu. iso is the name of the iso image you renamed (see)

3. copy Ubuntu. iso to the C: \ (system disk) root directory (see)

4. use the compression software to open ISO (in fact, you can also use a virtual optical drive), and run the vmlinuz and initrd under/casper. drag the two lz files to C: \, and then. drag disk to C: \ (see)

5. modify boot. ini

1. right-click my computer and then click Properties ". -Or-click Start, click Run, type sysdm. cpl, and click OK ".

2. on the "Advanced" tab, click "settings" under "start and fault recovery ".

3. Under system startup, click edit ".

Add the following statements

C: \ grldr. mbr = "Ubuntu 11.10"

Save and close (see ). For example, in read-only mode, right-click the attribute and change it to OK.

After restarting, go to the startup item list

After selecting Ubuntu 11.10, go to GRUB and select Ubuntu to install.

The following describes the installation process.

After entering the interface, find the terminal in the application and enter the following statements

Sudo umount-l/isodevice

Note that-l is-L (see), and then close the terminal.

Click install Ubuntu on the desktop to go to the installation page (see)

Select Chinese (simplified) and click continue. (SEE)

When installing Ubuntu 11.10, I choose to disconnect the network connection and do not install updates and MP3 encoding. This allows fast installation (see ).

Windows 7 is supported in Ubuntu 11.04, except that Windows 7 is automatically added in the startup item. "In fact, a problem is that Windows 7 is replaced by text, because my computer is installed with XP without Window7 "according to your needs, I personally suggest selecting 3rd, with a strong autonomy and fewer problems. Right-click to add a partition as needed. if you want to change or delete the partition, click the following command after selecting the partition. next we will focus on the partitioning scheme.
