How to force ReadyBoost on a USB device

In Windows Vista, Microsoft introduced an interesting feature, that is, readyboost. The so-called readyboost, in short, is to use a usb device with a usb 2.0 interface-flash memory or usb flash disk-to expand the Windows cache, improve the performance of Windows Vista. Our tests show that the performance improvement of readyboost is significant for low-configuration PCs, especially those with insufficient memory.

To ensure the readyboost effect and avoid the negative impact of low-speed usb devices, Microsoft has certain requirements on the reading and writing speed of usb devices that can be used for readyboost, for example, the transmission rate is not lower than 2.5 mb/s for 4 K random reads and 1.75 mb/s for K random writes. If Windows Vista detects that the usb device does not meet the requirements, the readyboost function cannot be enabled. To be honest, the chaotic usb storage market in China in the past few years has resulted in the extremely poor technical specifications of some usb flash drives. Many products, including some of the so-called famous factory products, have made readyboost easy for many users to sigh.

The following describes how to forcibly enable readyboost on a usb hard drive that is not supported by Windows Vista. If you are interested, try it.

This technique is not tested, because when we insert a USB flash disk into the system, there are no options in the following setup steps, and the interface replaced by the one is confusing, the device is directly inserted into the usb port on the pc motherboard and does not use a device such as a card reader. Whether force-enabling readyboost will damage usb storage devices and whether or not enabling readyboost on unsupported devices can improve performance is not guaranteed by Vista world.

Force-enable readyboost on usb devices not supported by Windows Vista

Insert a usb device;

Open the device properties page and click Start> Computer> right-click Properties> readyboost tab.

Open the Registry Editor and find the following registry Branch:

Hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/Windows-nt/currentversion/emdgmt

Find the corresponding usb device item and modify the following three items:

Devicestatus: 2

Readspeedkbs: 1000.

Writespeedkbs: 1000

You can find that readyboost is enabled by inserting the usb device again.
