How to solve the slow response of network neighbors in the LAN

Have you ever encountered such a situation?

In the peer network of Windows98 and Windows95, access other computers through network peers. Sometimes, you have to refresh the page several times before connecting.
It takes 30 to 50 seconds to access other computers in Windows 2000 Server or Win dows 2000 Advanced Server, especially Windows 98.
It is slow enough to connect to the Internet, and now it is slow enough to connect to the LAN. What should I do? Next we will work with the author to solve the problem of "slowness" in the LAN.

The main problems in the network are hardware and software. The "slow" Problem in the LAN should also be solved from these two aspects.

I. Hardware: First of all, let's make it hard. The hardware that determines the network speed is nothing more than the NIC, hub, and network cable.

1. Nic
In the early days, most Ethernet NICs were 10 M, and now 10 M/M NICs have replaced 10 M NICs. In addition, Gigabit NICs are also available. So, if you still use a 10 m Nic, I suggest you change it.

2. Hub
A hub is a central component of a Network. All data must be distributed to other computers. A common HUB, that is, a HUB, lags behind a switched HUB (vswitch) in its working mode. Therefore, when funds are sufficient, the speed of using a switch is much faster. But it is better to use some of the miscellaneous vswitches, rather than buy a 3COM or D-LINK with more money. If the funds are insufficient, it is best to make good use of the HUB.

3. network cable
Don't underestimate the network cable. The network cable of miscellaneous brands and some famous network cables such as ampu have significantly different transmission speeds, especially in a m network. The production of the crystal head is also the key. Many people think that as long as the order of the crystal heads at both ends of the line is the same, but they do not know that the four wires in the five cat-5e twisted pair are different. I used to go to a school to solve the problem of network disconnection. I checked the line sequence of the crystal head and fixed the problem again. There are two common standards for making crystal heads: T586A and T856B.

2. Software

In a small network, the efficiency of using the NETBEUI protocol is high. Therefore, try to use TCP/IP and NETBEUI protocols in the LAN, or use only the NETBEUI protocol, as long as there is NETBEUI in the Peer network. No matter what protocol is used, the protocols on the two computers that access each other must be the same. If the protocol is different, you can use the following method to add the protocol.

Right-click "Network neighbors" and select "properties". In the "network" dialog box, press "add" and select "protocol ". Select the required protocol. To make your computer accessible to other computers, select "file and print sharing" to enable other users to access my files.
After completing the preceding steps, the problem can be basically solved in Windows 98. However, it is still slow to access other computers through network neighbors on Windows 2000 Server. In fact, we can bypass the network neighbors of Windows2000 to access other computers. Here I provide three solutions:
Method 1
Enter "computer name sharing name" or "ip address sharing name" to access the shared folder on other computers. (This is the fastest and most convenient method)

Method 2
Right-click "my computer" or "Network Neighbor", select "ing network drive", and select a drive letter from "Drive, enter your computer name and shared name in URL format in "path. Then access the shared folder as you access the drive.

Method 3
Create a shortcut on the desktop to run the command in method 1.

All three methods can quickly access other computers in the network.

Due to my limited level, I just roughly described possible problems and some solutions. In the actual application process, there may be other more convenient solutions. This article aims to help you solve some practical problems.

I would like to introduce you to the working principle of network neighbors: browsing services. I hope you will have some gains !!

"Browsing service" is very important. Many users have developed a serious dependence on "Network neighbors.
After a user successfully logs on to the network, the next step is to access network resources. To help users find network resources, Microsoft uses a mechanism called "Browser Service" to find and locate network resources. The customer's browsing process is as follows:

Add the server to the browser list by publishing an announcement to the main browser.
The list of shared servers (domains) between the master browser and backup browser.
The client retrieves the computer list of the backup browser from the main browser.
Contact the backup browser to retrieve the server list.
The client and server contact to retrieve the list of shared resources on the server.

On the Internet, in order to effectively locate network resources, the Microsoft Windows Web Browser Service must have a specific "Browser Server" to participate and provide.
Browsing server roles include "(domain) Main browsing server", "backup browsing server", and "potential browsing server.

Browsing servers are generally started by the first computers and can be automatically changed or handed over by election.
Every 15 minutes, the primary browser of each subnet declares itself to other primary browsers on the subnetwork.
Every 12 minutes, the main browser of each domain contacts WINS to obtain a list of all domainname <1B> domains.
Every 12 minutes, each primary browser (subnet) contacts the domain primary browser to update the browser table.
Every 12 minutes, each backup browser contacts its local master browser to retrieve and update the browsing table.
All computers with server components (that is, those with the ability to share network resources) declare themselves to the main browser in their local domain.
Browser election occurs when the local subnet cannot find the primary browser or the domain controller is initialized. The election is determined by the operating system version number and identity.
In addition, most of the traffic in this process is broadcast traffic. This is why Wins is required for normal use of "Network neighbors" in a multi-subnet environment ". This is also why we strongly recommend that you use "Network neighbors" as few as possible in the enterprise network ". Its working process determines that in a relatively large and dynamically changing network, it is doomed to be unreliable, there are many problems, and bring chaos.
The Browser Service does not have direct control options, except that for Win9x, you can control whether the computer is a Browser Server in "network properties-file and print Shared Service Properties", and you must modify the registry. The following are some registry control parameters: (pass the test only in Windows NT/Windows 2000) be case sensitive!

Hide a specific computer in a network neighbor:
Although this can be achieved by turning off the "server" service, it also loses the way to provide shared resources. You can modify the registry:
SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesLanmanServerParameters

Create or modify:
"Hidden" = dword: 1/0
1 is hidden. After hiding it, you can still access it through the UNC path name.

Then, the registry key for controlling whether the Browser Server is used:
Win2000 computer, modify the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesBrowserParameters
"MaintainServerList" = REG_SZ: YES/NO/AUTO
"YES" is used as the Browser Server, "NO" is not used, and "AUTO" is automatically used.

Win9x computer, control panel-Network-file and print shared service attributes:
Master Browser Server: Invalid/valid/automatic

We recommend that you do not set the win9x computer as valid, and set the computer that is frequently restarted or disconnected from the network as invalid to improve the work of network neighbors and improve network efficiency.

For more information about the Browser Service, see the Microsoft TCP/IP white paper and other materials.
