How to use a virtual machine to install Linux in Vista

Install Fesora8, VMtools and their patches using VMware6 in Vista. I have always wanted to use VirtualBox to install a Linux Virtual Machine in Vista, but I have never been able to solve the resolution problem. Both Fedora 8 and Ubuntu 8.04 can only work at a x resolution, google + baidu concluded that there was a problem with the VirtualBox virtual video card (I don't know if I understood it right), so I switched to the old camp VMware.
Register on the official website and get the free 30-day serial number for installation. This is not technical. I Installed VMware Workstation 6.0.0 build-4573 (with bugs ), then install the standard tutorial to install Fedora 8. This process is so familiar that you don't have to worry about it. Then start to change the resolution as needed. But I always think the resolution is strange, but at least I can work.

The main process is:

1) Use root to enter the command line format (or graphical interface). Tools can only be installed after the VM is started.

2) Exit the VM with the mouse (Ctrl + Alt by default, which can be changed in the VMware menu), and click Install VMware tools in the VMware menu, then, find the two mounted installation files in the/media directory.

3) Find a directory, such as/tmp, or/root/tmpcopy the tar.gz file, extract, and then run./vmware-install.pl (ignore the connection it points to), one way press Enter. If you are careful enough, you will find an error in it. This error is important for file sharing between virtual machines and hosts!

4) When you press enter all the way, you should check it. For example, my laptop has a 14-inch wide screen (WXGA +), so the resolution is set to 1440x900, which makes the screen look good.

Use a USB flash drive to test the vmware tools file sharing tool vmhgfs.tar under vmware6.0 and replace the vmhgfs.tar file under/usr/lib/vmware-tools/modules/source, then run it in/usr/bin. /vmware-config-tools.pl, press enter all the way, then you will find in/mnt there is a folder named hgfs (do not install the patch is not ), of course, the premise is that you have set a shared folder in the VMware menu.

Currently, this tool has three advantages for me: intelligent mouse switching in the master/Vm, without the hostkey; normal resolution (not normal before installation, but can endure ); file Sharing is normal.

Access the Fedora 8 virtual machine, USB, network, and file sharing. Everything works properly.
