In 64-bit windows, the Registry is divided into 32-bit registry keys and 64-bit registry keys. Many 32-bit registry entries have the same name as their corresponding 64-bit registry entries, and vice versa.
The default 64-bit Registry Editor (regedit.exe) in 64-bit Windows displays the 64-bit and 32-bit registry keys. Wow64 registry redirector is 32-bitProgramProvides different registry entries corresponding to the 32-bit registry key. In the 64-bit Registry Editor, The 32-bit registry key is displayed under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \Wow6432node
You can use the default 64-bit Registry Editor to view or edit the 64-bit and 32-bit registry keys and key values. To view or edit the 64-bit registry key, you must use the 64-bit Registry Editor (regedit.exe ). You can also use the 32-bit version Registry Editor in the % SystemRoot % \ syswow64 folder to view or edit the 32-bit registry keys and key values. The task execution method in the 32-bit Registry Editor is no different from that in the 64-bit Registry Editor. To open the 32-bit Registry Editor, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run ".
- In the open box, type% SystemRoot % \ syswow64 \ regeditAnd then click OK ".
Note:: Unless you use-MEnable the second instance of the Registry Editor. Otherwise, you must disable the 64-bit Registry Editor before enabling the 32-bit Registry Editor (and vice versa ). For example, if the 64-bit Registry Editor is already running, Type% SystemRoot % \ syswow64 \ Regedit-mYou can start a 32-bit Registry Editor.
To support 32-bit and 64-bit com registration and program State coexistence, wow64 provides a backup registry view for 32-bit programs. The 32-bit program will seeHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software32-bit completely separated treeHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SoftwareTree (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \Wow6432node). This can isolateHkey_classes_rootBecause each computer part of the tree resides in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software
To implement 64-bit/32-bit program interoperability through COM and other mechanisms, wow64 uses a registry reflector to mirror some registry keys and item values between the 64-bit registry view and the 32-bit registry view. The reflector is "intelligent" because it only reflects COM Activation Data.
Reflected registry key
Wow64 registry reflectors may modify the content and value of the registry key during reflection to adjust the path name. Therefore, the 32-bit content may be different from the 64-bit content. The following registry key is reflected:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ com3
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Ole
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ EventSystem
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ RPC
