Comments: Adobe Chief Technology Officer Kevin Lynch defended the recently controversial Adobe Flash technology and warned that the HTML 5 standard would "Throw Internet videos back to the dark ". Adobe Flash technology has been hit recently. First, Apple's recent iPad tablet and iPhone smartphones do not support Flash technology. At the same time, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs criticized that Flash software has too many vulnerabilities and is prone to faults, he also criticized Adobe for being "lazy ".

In response, Adobe responded to Apple, saying Adobe could easily transform Flash applications into iPad applications. Currently, Flash faces two major threats: Apple's refusal to support Flash on its touch screen devices, and HTML5 as a new open standard. To address these two threats, kevin lynch today published a blog post to counter them.

About Apple, Lynch said Adobe is ready to provide Flash Support on iPhone, iPad and other devices, but Apple has been rejecting it for more than a year. "Once Apple agrees to provide Flash content to users, we can immediately implant Flash into browsers of such devices," Lynch said. However, we have not yet obtained any cooperation from Apple ."

Lynch pointed out that the Flash 10.1 software for smartphones is coming soon, and mobile phones including Android, BlackBerry, Nokia and Palm Pre can run. If these phones support Flash, it is Apple's fault that the iPhone does not support Flash.

However, in the long run, the biggest threat to Flash is the HTML 5 standard, especially in video playback. Lynch said that 75% of videos on the Internet are currently displayed through Flash players. If the video playback function of HTML 5 is enabled, the share of Flash will definitely decrease, and Google and other companies are vigorously promoting the HTML 5 standard through YouTube video websites, Chrome browsers and other products. In this regard, Lynch said, HTML 5 does not constitute a threat to Flash, Adobe will support HTML 5, but the incompatibility between such standards and multiple browsers will become a obstacle to its development.

"Adobe supports HTML and its development, and we want to add more features to our software during HTML development," Lynch said. If HTML can complete all the current Flash tasks, we can save a lot of effort. However, this situation is unlikely to be achieved. Even in video playback, Flash can play 75% of videos on the Internet, while HTML video playback cannot be supported by major browser vendors, therefore, users and content producers have to go back to the Dark Age of internet video with incompatibility problems everywhere."

Analysts believe that HTML 5 is still an immature technology, and these incompatibility problems can be solved over time. Flash is more mature in video playback. However, HTML 5 is in a rapid development period. As a natural Internet standard, it has many advantages that can help it win in the long run.

At the same time, there is a conflict between Adobe and developers. Flash is currently the most popular Internet video and animation standards. Therefore, developers have to purchase the Creative Suite software from Adobe to develop Flash applications. Once Flash developers turn to other technologies to develop applications for devices such as the Internet, iPhone, and iPad, Adobe's competitive edge will be greatly weakened, and Flash standards will also be in trouble.
