Xliff is the conversion specification for the resource file format. The aim is to improve the efficiency of software localization operations. "By adopting Xliff, all software vendors can make resources available in a single file format." Since this is a standard specification, all localization services can be processed ". (OASIS)
In Xliff, the software supplier uses the filter to convert the original file into the Xliff format, to the localization service provider for translation, after receiving the translated file, then using the same filter to revert to the original file format. This will significantly improve the efficiency of localization operations.
"Currently, software vendors deliver resources in multiple file formats. Regardless of the general format, the localization provider needs to be provided with the method needed to localize the file. For software vendors dealing with multiple file formats, it takes a lot of time to do this (the President of the Xliff Technical Committee, Tony Jewtushenko of Oracle, USA).
Also attending the XLIFF Technical Committee are the United States Commerce One, Hewlett-Packard (Hewlett-Packard), US IBM, Novell, US Oracle, SAP Germany, Sun Microsystems and US Xerox.
