Install dual-system XP/Win7 independent startup Methods

There are more and more users installing dual systems. However, the startup and maintenance of multiple systems have always been a headache. For example, Windows XP (WinXP) + Windows 7 users (Win7 ), if the Bootmgr or bcd startup configuration of the Startup File fails, both systems will often fail to enter. This article discusses how to use XRLDR (a lightweight multi-startup management tool) to start WinXP, Win7, and WinPE systems independently.

Enable WinXP to start independently

We all know that WinXP is started through "C: \ NTLDR". For users who first install WinXP and then install Win7, we only need to change the Hard Disk Master Boot Record to NT52 format.

Copy the downloaded bootsect.exe to drive C after entering winxp, start the command prompt tool, and enter "c: \ bootsect.exe/nt52 C:". When the screen displays "Bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes. indicates that the Master Boot Record is successfully changed to NT52 format. After the system is restarted, NTLDR is automatically loaded to start WinXP (the Bootmgr startup Manager interface is no longer displayed ).

For users who install WinXP on Windows 7, do not use the above command to change the Master Boot Record. Otherwise, both systems will fail to enter. After being changed to the NT52 format, the hard drive Master Boot Record will look for the NTLDR file under the root directory of the first partition (the NT60 format is to find Bootmgr ).

Enable Windows 7

After completing the preceding operations, restart the system to enter WinXP and cut the entire "C: \ bootmgr" file and "C: \ boot" directory to the root directory of drive D. Run the downloaded export bcdtool.exe, and click Start configuration> open to open the configuration file d: \ bootbcd. Select "Edit> Delete startup project", and delete all the original startup projects. Then, select "Edit> New Vista startup project", select the new project, double-click the "device" item in the right pane, and change it to "partition = D: "(the drive letter is changed according to the specific partition of Win7 installation)," description "(the name of the boot menu display) is changed to" Windows 7 ".

After moving and configuring the above Startup File, we only need to be able to load "d: \ bootmgr", Win7 can start from the d disk (the XRLDR configuration is required for loading Bootmgr ).
