VMware is a commonly used, powerful virtual machine management software, as well as a more common lightweight virtual machine management software VirtualBox. VMware Workstation is a virtual machine management software that, when installed, can create multiple virtual machines (that is, virtual PCs) and then install the operating system on the virtual machine, each of which is itself like a real computer. After downloading the installation package for VMware Workstation 12, install it directly. Although the download is a trial version, but I have provided a key, with the key to activate the permanent free use. Installation method is very simple, double-click the installer directly, the default installation can be. After installation, click on the desktop shortcut start icon, will prompt you to enter the license key, the above key input can be activated. 2. Create a virtual machine with VMware
Open the VMware software, then click on the main menu bar file → create a new virtual machine, pop-up the following window, select the typical options:
Click Next to eject the following window and select the "Install operating system later" option.
Click Next and pop up the following window, allowing you to select the type and version of the operating system that will be installed in the virtual machine, as an example of installing the CentOS version of the Linux system.
Click Next, set the name of the virtual machine and the location of the virtual machine, name can be arbitrarily taken, save the location, the default is to save a directory in C, but do not recommend the C disk, can be placed under D disk a directory (such as D:\VMware Virtual machines\ CentOS6.6), easy to manage later.
Click Next, set the maximum size of the virtual machine hard disk space, the default is 20G, in general, 10G is absolutely enough, so, here I choose to allocate 10G of hard disk space as a virtual machine hard disk space.
Click Next to eject the following interface to complete the creation of the virtual machine. The interface has a "Custom hardware" button that you can click to set the hardware in the virtual machine, but in general, the default hardware settings are OK. If you need to change your hardware settings, we can also set the virtual machine interface flexibly after the virtual machine is created. Therefore, click here to finish directly.
Once the virtual machine is created, you can see the virtual machine CentOS6.6 we just created in the main VMware interface, as shown in the following figure:
In this way, our virtual machines are created. This virtual machine is the equivalent of a real computer, but we have not yet installed an operating system for it. Before installing the operating system, we can flexibly change the hardware settings of the virtual machine (such as memory size, number of processors, network adapters, and so on) if necessary. You can click on the main menu bar "virtual machine → settings" to make changes.
The memory size of the virtual machine is allocated 1G space by default, it is not recommended to exceed half of the memory size of the real machine. The processor setting of the virtual machine can be consistent with your real computer's CPU processor settings. The default setting is: The number of processors is 1 and the core number of processors is 1 (that is, a single core processor). In general, the default value is OK. Unless you want the virtual machine to perform very well, modify it to a maximum value. The hard disk size of the virtual machine is the size of the hard disk you just allocated, the number of hard drives by default only one, if necessary, you can add one or more pieces of hard disk. The CD/DVD (IDE) (The optical drive) settings for the virtual machine, the optical drive settings are very important, and it is about whether you can successfully install the operating system on the virtual machine. In the device status, you can see that "connected" has not been checked, because the virtual machine has not been turned on, after the boot must ensure that it is checked, otherwise, will not detect the optical drive, there is no way to install the operating system to the virtual machine. Since our real machine does not have a physical drive (physical optical drive), there is no system disc, so here we choose to "use ISO image file", and then click on the right side of the "Browse" button, Select the system image file you downloaded (such as Centos-6.6-i386-bin-dvd1.iso), click the OK button.
If you do not have a Linux system image file, you can click Http://pan.baidu.com/s/1qYESbBA Download, or your own Baidu to find the download address. Virtual Machine network adapter settings, related to the virtual machine network connection is normal, here temporarily do not introduce, and then detailed. Now that the virtual machine has been created, the basic hardware settings are configured as well. To prevent future virtual machines from going awry, we can take advantage of VMware's snapshot capabilities to quickly revert to the initial state. 3. VMware Snapshot features VMware's snapshot feature helps us to save a snapshot state of a certain state of a virtual machine so that it can be quickly restored to a certain state of the virtual machine. It should be noted that the snapshot function is only VMware functionality, the real Linux system does not have this function, if you are not using the virtual machine Linux system, you need to pay attention to the Linux system related files to backup. Click the icon shown in the following image to save a snapshot of the current virtual machine state.


You can manage snapshots of virtual machines (take snapshots, recover snapshots, delete snapshots, clone snapshots, and so on) by clicking the icon shown in the following image.
4. VMware Cloning features VMware cloning is another very convenient feature. It can help you quickly clone a copy of the current virtual machine without taking up more disk space. For example, if you need multiple Linux systems to do server cluster testing, you can use the cloning feature. If you recreate a virtual machine and then install the operating system, not only will it take a long time, but the new virtual machine will also take up more disk space. Cloning is different, it can quickly clone a copy of the current virtual machine, and only need to occupy dozens of megabytes of disk space (need to use linked cloning). Therefore, the cloning function is very convenient and practical. It should be noted that the cloned virtual machine is only a copy of the original virtual machine, and if the original virtual machine is deleted, the cloned replica virtual machine will not work properly. Although, now we haven't installed the operating system for the original virtual machine, but here we still demonstrate the cloning method (usually after the operating system has been installed and then cloned), the steps are as follows: Click on the VMware Main Menu bar "virtual machine → management → cloning", pop-up the following window:
Click Next to select Clone from the current status in the virtual machine, as shown in the following figure:
Click Next and the Clone method selects Create link clone, as shown in the following figure:
Click Next to set the name and save location of the new virtual machine.
Finally, click Finish. In this way, we can see two identical virtual machines in VMware's main interface.
5.
