Insufficient space causes Exchange Server to strike

The company's internal email Server system uses Microsoft's Exchange 2000 and the operating platform is Windows 2000 Server. It has been stable for nearly two years and has no problems, recently, a big problem has emerged. All mailbox users, whether through Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express or IE browsers, cannot enter the mailbox.

Because many important work of the company is handled through internal emails, it must be resolved as soon as possible. I will immediately start troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

First, I check whether the network is actually faulty. The client and the Mail Server Ping each other. The result shows that the network is normal and the client can normally access the shared folder on the mail server. I restarted the email server for testing, and the problem still exists.

Next, I re-set the Micrsoft Exchange Server verification in the "mail" option in the "control panel" of the client. The verification is successful, but the mailbox is still inaccessible. This eliminates the possibility of client problems. The root cause of the problem is probably on the mail server.

I suspect that the email server may be infected with a virus, but the latest KV2004 and rising cannot find the virus. Then open the "service" in the management tool and check that Microsoft Exchange Information Store, Microsoft Exchagner POP3, and Microsoft Exchagner IMAP4 are not started, and manual start of them is still not enabled.

At this time, I think of "Event Viewer ". Open the "Event Viewer" in the management tool for viewing. I have seen many error messages about MSExchange. Among them, event ID 482 appears a lot, the main content of this information is "insufficient disk space on the computer ".

According to the information, I immediately started to check the disk space of the server, and found that the size of the C disk is 10 Gb, the available space is only about 300 MB, and "C: the Exchsrvr directory in \ Program Files actually occupies nearly 7 GB space, and the MDBDATA folder in this directory occupies 6 GB. It seems that the fault is caused by insufficient disk space.

Troubleshooting

The author judges that Microsoft Exchange Information Store cannot be started because of insufficient disk space, which affects Microsoft Exchagner POP3 and Microsoft Exchagner IMAP4, eventually, the mailbox user cannot log on to his/her mailbox.

The cause of the problem is found. The author first deletes all the files in the "C: \ WINNT \ Temp" Directory (about 500 MB), and then deletes "C: all log Files in \ Program Files \ Exchsrvr \ MDBDATA \ "(about 3 GB ). After the deletion operation is completed, restart the server. The client mailbox users can log on to the mailbox normally, and the login and sending and receiving operations can be successful. This problem has been solved. Delete these files to release disk space and enable Microsoft Exchange Information Store to start.

Note:

1. the files in the MDBDATA folder are the log files and database files of Exchange 2000. The log file name format starts with E00, do not delete several files such as priv1. * And pub1. * (these files contain information of mailbox users and emails stored on the server by users ), if you delete any of these files, you cannot log on to the email server, or even lose emails stored on the server.

2. Check the disk space of the Exchange 2000 directory on the mail server regularly to ensure that all services of Exchange 2000 can run normally.

3. You can add a high-capacity hard disk to transfer the log files and database files of Exchange 2000 to the large hard disk.
