Introduction to QoS Features

QoS is: Quality of service, quality assurance. In the case of insufficient network bandwidth, QoS is set to ensure that some important services can obtain sufficient network bandwidth. You can set the bandwidth ratio that each priority can get, and when the network is busy, the network bandwidth will be allocated according to the set proportion, ensuring the entire egress line, the important service through the firewall can be carried out smoothly.

[QoS feature settings] include QoS level settings, QoS upload rule settings, and QoS download rule settings three sections. such as:

A.qos level Settings

The enable QoS feature is a switch to the firewall QoS feature, and the QoS feature can be activated by ticking.

slider adjustment allows you to define the network bandwidth ratios for different [priority] levels.

1.qos rules for bandwidth processing, is not statically reserved, but dynamic allocation. That is, when higher-priority QoS services are not in use, low-level QoS services can take up more bandwidth than their own, to take advantage of the excess bandwidth. A high-priority QoS service packet is sent more than a low-priority packet, only if two different levels of QoS services require bandwidth-intensive conflicts.

2.qos generally the effect of TCP protocol transmission service is obvious, most commonly used applications are TCP protocol.

b.qos upload rule settings

[QoS upload rule setting] is used to classify the data service, according to the QoS rules set the selected data delivery priority for delivery, to ensure the timely transmission of important data. The Setup interface is as follows:

clicking [New] will pop up the [New QoS Rule] wizard, which then fills in the [name], [description], [Source IP], [Destination IP], [protocol], [source], [target], [priority] and other information (the meanings of each setting are described below) and the last point [finish].

after setting up a QoS rule, select the rule, click [Modify] to view and modify the settings that were filled in when the QoS rule was defined earlier, and the following dialog box appears:

[service name] and [service description] are free to fill in the explanatory text, only to do the identification.

[ IP Address] The [source IP] and [destination IP] used to complete the QoS rule matching packet can be defined as [all IP] or [specified IP range].

[Protocol] fill in the protocol used by the service defined by this QoS rule, optionally TCP, UDP, or ICMP.

[Source port] and [destination port] Fill in the port used by the service defined by the QoS rule, either [all ports] or [specify port].

1. Because it is defined [QoS upload rules], the rule is used to match packets sent outward by the WAN port, so it is generally defined [source port] to differentiate between different services.

For example, when defining a rule to ensure that the [intranet provides Web services] priority, then for [upload rules] the rule's [source port] is 80, and the destination port is typically chosen randomly by the client, so [target port] should be defined as all ports, set as shown.

2.[Service Priority] Select the priority you want. Here, in addition to the four priority levels defined earlier, there is a [privilege level] that represents a 100% bandwidth.

c.qos Download Rule settings

[QOS download rule setting] is used to classify data services and deliver them according to the different service priorities set by the QoS rules to ensure the timeliness of important data. The Setup interface is as follows:

similar to the QoS upload rules, click [New] and follow the wizard prompts to complete the [QOS download rule settings].

For example, if we want to guarantee access to an extranet FTP service resource with a higher priority, we can define the QoS download rule [Source port] of 20-21, as shown in the following example:

because it is defined [QOS download rules], the rule is used to match packets that are downloaded from outside the WAN port, so it is generally the [source port] that defines the download direction to differentiate between different services. As the previous example defines the service for the [source port] of 20-21 for the FTP service.
