What is WDS?

To put it simply, the wireless relay mode of the Wireless Distributed System (WDS) enables the Wireless AP to communicate and relay between wireless APS on WDS ), this does not affect the Wireless AP coverage function.

The wireless distribution system (WDS) creates a link between two AP devices through a radio interface. This link can relay the traffic from an AP that does not have an Ethernet connection to another AP with an Ethernet connection. WDS allows you to configure up to four point-to-point links between access points.

Note that not all APs support WDS, which can be viewed clearly during the purchase. It also describes the transmit power and antenna gain parameters when purchasing products. The unit of AP transmitting power is dbm, and the unit of antenna gain is dbi. The higher the two values, the stronger the signal penetrating power of wireless devices. Precautions for WDS

Each wireless distribution system (WDS) link is mapped to a logical WDS port on the AP. The behavior of the WDS port is similar to the Ethernet port, rather than the standard wireless interface: On the BSS port, the access point is learned through pass and frame, while on the WDS or Ethernet port, access Points are learned only through frames. Note the following when setting WDS:

The WDS link shares the communication bandwidth with the client. Therefore, although the maximum data rate of the Access Point Unit is still 11 Gb/s/Second, the client throughput will decrease when the WDS link is active.

If no partner MAC address is configured in the WDS table, the WDS port is disabled.

Each WDS port on a single AP should have a unique partner MAC address. Do not enter the same MAC address in the WDS port list of the AP.

Each access point of a WDS member must have the same channel settings to communicate with each other.

Each access point of a WDS member must have the same WEP encryption settings. WDS does not use 802.1x. Therefore, to encrypt the WDS link, you must configure WEP encryption for each access point only in WEP encryption or hybrid mode ), each access point must have the same encryption key 1.

If the network does not support spanning trees, be careful not to form a network loop between APs. For example, creating a WDS link between two access points connected to the same Ethernet will form a network loop if the Spanning Tree is disabled ).

You must disable automatic channel selection to create WDS.

If the AP connects to the network only through the WDS link, you need to set a static IP address to manage the AP through the Web interface.
