Smartdrv.exe files can simulate a portion of memory as disk buffering to speed up file access, so when you install Windows XP under DOS, running Smartdrv.exe files can greatly increase the speed at which files are copied. The point to note is that this program uses extended memory, so the runtime must also load the Himem.sys beforehand.

How do you do it? First, create a Startup disk using Add/Remove Programs in Windows 98 Control Panel. Then look for "Himem.sys" under C and copy it to the boot disk. Create a new text file on the Startup disk and add the following sentence: Device=himem.sys, save and rename the file to Config.sys. Then locate the Smartdrv.exe file in the Windows 98 installation directory and copy it to the startup disk.

Next, start the computer with the startup disk you created, type "Smartdrv c+20480" after the prompt, and then enter (hint: the parameter "c+" indicates that the virtual buffer is assigned to disk C, and you can set the installation location of Windows XP according to your requirements. " 20480 "refers to the size of the virtual buffer, in kilobytes (KB), typically about 1/3 of the physical memory size. Now you can install the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, where, if the CD-ROM drive is F, then we change the drive to F disk I386 directory, enter "Winnt" and return, install Windows XP tour began!
