As mentioned above, only scriptlet will not generate HTML. If scriptlet wants to generate HTML, it can use a variable called "out. This variable does not need to be defined. In fact, it has been pre-defined for scriptlet, and other variables are defined together. These variables will be detailed in subsequent tutorials. The following example shows how scriptlet generates HTML output:

<HTML>

<BODY>

<%

// This scriptlet declares and initializes "date"

System. out. println ("Evaluating date now ");

Java. util. Date date = new java. util. Date ();

%>

Hello! The time is now

<%

// This scriptlet generates HTML output

Out. println (String. valueOf (date ));

%>

</BODY>

</HTML>

In this example, we do not use an expression, but print the generated HTML directly to the "out" variable. This "out" variable is a type of javax. servlet. jsp. JspWriter.
