We have done a lot of articles about CPU, but for most users, we may not have the opportunity to split the CPU in the chassis. Therefore, this time, we will learn about our processor through the system and simple software methods.

Entry

If you only want to know your CPU model, Windows Me/2000/XP operating systems can help us complete this task. After entering Windows, right-click "my computer" and click "System Properties" in the pop-up menu ", then the new "System Properties" window will display the CPU properties (see figure 1 ). When the system is used with an earlier CPU (mainly a CPU before Intel Pentium III), only the CPU model, the Intel Pentium 4 CPU in 1, is displayed. Intel adds CPU speed information to the CPU in the new processor (later Pentium III series processor and Pentium 4 processor, therefore, the current CPU detection will also contain the following GHz words, which is the standard operating frequency of this CPU. In addition, the Windows system attribute can also read the actual running speed of the CPU. The 3.21GHz below the CPU is the actual running frequency of the CPU. We need to know that the actual CPU operating frequency should be consistent with the standard operating frequency, but the reason is that the adjustment frequency of the motherboard of each manufacturer is inconsistent, the frequency here has a certain error. If the difference between the two frequencies is too large, the standard operating frequency is 2.40 GHz, and the actual operating frequency is 3.21 GHz, then you will encounter CPU overclocking, if you purchased the CPU according to the 3.20GHz model, you will surely encounter a profiteer. When the actual frequency is significantly lower than the standard frequency, it indicates that either the CPU model settings in the BIOS are incorrect, or your CPU or motherboard has the automatic frequency reduction and energy saving function, which is very common in the notebook CPU.

If you are using AMD series Processors, you will also see similar CPU information. However, if you are using AMD Athlon XP series Processors, it does not have Intel's standard operating frequency, only the prvalue of the current CPU, which is calculated based on the actual running speed of the current CPU, is not a fixed information. Therefore, we cannot use this method to determine whether the Athlon XP processor is Remark. In AMD's 64-bit processing, AMD also solidified the CPU model information in the CPU. You can view this information to see if the purchased AMD 64-bit processor is genuine. Currently, AMD's 64-bit processors are upgraded from low to high, including Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, and Opteron.

If we look at the Intel Pentium 4 processor logo (see figure 2), we will find "HT" in the upper right corner of the logo, which indicates that this CPU supports Hyper Threading technology, A single CPU can be simulated into two CPUs to improve the CPU usage efficiency.

How can we check whether the "HT" Technology is successfully enabled when we use the Pentium 4 processor with the "HT" technology? Start the Job Manager for Windows/XP and view the CPU usage records under the "performance" menu. If you see two CPU usage windows, the hyperthreading settings are successfully enabled (Figure 3 ).

If you want to know more about your CPU, you need third-party CPU detection software. We recommend the CPU-Z green software (: http://www.mydrivers.com/tools/dir17/d6901.htm ). Start the CPU-Z and you will see the interface 4. Here, Name indicates the CPU model, such as Pentium 4 or Athlon XP. Code Name indicates the CPU development Code. For example, either Northwood or Prescott indicates the CPU Code. Package indicates the CPU interface and encapsulation method, such as Socket 478, Socket A, and LGA775. Technology is the CPU manufacturing process. Currently, it is mostly 0.13 micron or 0.09 micron. Voltage is the operating Voltage of the CPU. Specification is the full name of the CPU model, which is equivalent to the CPU attribute detected in Windows. Family and Ext. Family both indicate the number of CPU batches and the number of improvements. We should pay attention to the Revision number, which indicates different CPU versions in the same manufacturing process. Generally, each update of this number indicates that a large number of bugs encountered in CPU production are corrected, the CPU manufacturing process is upgraded to another level. For example, when we purchase a race D processor, we will say that the D0 version is better than the super-frequency capability of the C0 version. This D0 or C0 version is read here.

Figure 4 shows the CPU-related frequencies in the Clocks box. Core Speed refers to the actual CPU running frequency, Multiploer refers to the CPU doubling, FSB refers to the Front-Side Bus of the CPU, and CPU running frequency = frequency doubling × Front-End Bus. Bus Speed is the Bus frequency between the CPU and the chipset. The earliest FSB and Bus Speed frequencies were the same, and since Athlon and Pentium 4, the CPU manufacturers can exchange data multiple times between the CPU and the chipset in a front-end Bus cycle through the frequency division technology, in this way, the frontend bus and bus frequency become multiples. For example, Pentium 4 can exchange four times of data with the North bridge chip in a FSB cycle, so the Bus Speed of Pentium 4 is FSB × 4. This explains a question from many users: Why do we always say that Pentium 4 has an external frequency of MHz, but the BIOS only has a front-end bus of MHz? Because the BIOS Front-End bus is the actual frequency generated by the frequency generator, and the MHz outer frequency is only a data transmission frequency. The Cache box in figure 4 shows the Cache capacity of the CPU. In the same architecture, the CPU performance with a larger Cache capacity will also be higher.

Finally, I learned so much about my CPU, but we still don't know what the CPU looks like? It doesn't matter. We only need to connect to a search engine that can search for images, such as Baidu and google, and then search by the learned CPU development code as a keyword, then we can easily search for the CPU.
