Virtual Bridge

Connect the virtual network card of the virtual machine to the physical network card of the host machine through the virtual bridge. The VM can be connected to the external network of the host. If there is more than one physical network card on the host machine, use custom configuration to create another virtual bridge to connect to other physical network cards on the host machine.
 
Host virtual Nic

After the virtual machine is installed, right-click "Network Neighbor"/properties/the two NICs are displayed in the "Network Connection" window, by default, "VMware network adapter vmnet1" is used only by the host machine network; "VMware network adapter vmnet8" is used by the NAT network. Right-click the attributes of these two NICs and we can see the full name of the virtual Nic under the regular tab. Of course, you can also enter ipconfig in the "command prompt" of the host to learn the details of the host's virtual Nic.

NAT device

Nat is short for network address translation. When the host machine has only one IP address, the virtual machine can connect to the external network using the NAT device. We open the "service" in the "Management Tools" on the host machine ", it can be found that there is an additional "VMware NAT service" service, indicating that the system has installed it as a system service.

VMware DHCP service

DHCP is short for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. The Dhcp Service provides IP addresses for virtual machines that are not connected to an external network. The Virtual Machine IP address in the bridging network mode is directly provided by the DHCP server in the external network of the host.

I. Explanation of NAT principles for Virtual Machine Internet access

Virtual Machine Internet access is the most convenient and hard to understand Nat. For ease of understanding, let's take an example in daily life. Assume that the current R teacher has three classes of students: Class A, Class B, and class C. Now there are two communication methods:
1st communication methods:
For example, if a student in class A wants to communicate with another student, he can directly call the name of the student in the class. This is to broadcast to the computer in the same network segment in the computer.
2nd communication methods:
The communication between the class and the class. At this time, it is useless to directly call the name of the Class B in the Class A, because it is impossible to hear it through the wall. This computer similar to different network segments cannot communicate. At this time, if the students in the two classes want to communicate with each other, they must use the r teacher as the speaker. This is similar to the Gateway in the network. The students in Class A will tell the students in Class R and the students in Class B.

3. Install the operating system in the virtual machine, start the virtual system, and open the IE browser. If the VM is normal, it will be able to access the Internet. Remember! The NIC in the virtual system does not need to be set. Although the principle of how to access the Internet is complex, it is easy to set up.

Troubleshooting

If the VM still cannot access the Internet at this time, I suggest you check the following areas to ensure that several Nat services have been started. The procedure is as follows:

Start> set> Control Panel> Management Tools> service to ensure that the VMware DHCP service and VMWare NAT service are started. If the two services have been started, the virtual machine still cannot access the Internet.

Iii. Questions about the inability of virtual machines to access the Internet using NAT
Many of my friends, when using vmware workstation, the virtual machine created uses Nat, but cannot access the Internet in the virtual machine, for the following reasons:
1. If the host is Windows XP Professional SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1, disable the firewall of vmnet1 and vmnet8. Right-click "Local Connection" and choose "properties"> "advanced"> "Settings". In the "Windows Firewall" dialog box, click "advanced ", remove "√" before vmnet1 and vmnet8.
2. You have installed rising, Jiangmin, Skynet firewall, or other firewall software on your host. You have not configured these firewall software correctly, as a result, VMWare cannot use its built-in NAT Function to share the Internet. In this case, you can disable third-party firewall software.
3. You may have enabled XP's built-in "Internet Connection Sharing" in vmnet8 or vmnet1. You do not need to enable sharing on the host using the NAT feature of VMware, because VMWare has built-in Nat sharing. If so, remove these shares and restart the NAT service (or restart the computer) of VMware ).
4. You may have used the "green" or "simplified" version of VMware Workstation. If so, use the full version for installation. If you need Chinese, you can install Chinese-based Chinese patches.

Recommended Practices:
Host does not install third-party firewall software, install the complete version of VMware Workstation (that is, the English version of VMware Workstation downloaded from the VMware Workstation website or some download site (VMware-workstation-5.5.3-34685 size is 92.4 m ), install Chinese patches and modify the firewall of XP so that vmnet1 and vmnet8 do not use the firewall (used by the host Nic ). Create a virtual machine to use a NAT Nic and set it to "automatically obtain the IP address and DNS address" in the virtual machine. In this way, you can access the Internet directly. If you want to allow a virtual machine to access the Internet, you can follow the tutorial I wrote, and the Internet will certainly be okay.
