The company's internal mail server system uses Microsoft Exchange 2000, the operating platform is Windows Server, using the last two years has been very stable, there is no problem, recently there has been a relatively large problem. All mailbox users, whether through Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, or IE browsers, will not be able to enter the mailbox.

Because many of the company's important work is through internal mail to deal with, must be resolved as soon as possible. The author immediately began troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

First of all, I check whether the network is really a problem. The client and mail server ping each other, and the results indicate that there are no problems with the network and that clients can access the shared folders on the mail server as normal. The author restarts the mail server to test, the problem still exists.

Next, the author in the client "Control Panel" in the "Mail" option, reset Micrsoft Exchange server Authentication, authentication can pass, but still can't enter the mailbox. This eliminates the possibility of client problems, and the root of the problem is likely to be on the mail server.

The author suspected that the mail server may have been a virus, but using the latest KV2004 and rising did not find the virus. You then open the services in Administrative tools to check to find that three of Microsoft Exchange information Store, Microsoft Exchagner POP3, Microsoft Exchagner IMAP4 are not started. It is still not possible to start them manually.

At this time, the author thought of "Event Viewer." Open the Admin tool in the Event Viewer for viewing, I see a lot of information about MSExchange error, where event ID 482 appears particularly large, the main content of this information is "computer disk space is insufficient."

According to the information, the author immediately began to check the disk space of the server, found that C disk 10GB capacity, the available space is only about 300MB, and "C:Program Files" in the Exchsrvr directory occupies nearly 7GB space, The Mdbdata folder in this directory takes up 6GB. It does appear that there is insufficient disk space to cause this failure.

Fault resolution

I'm sure that this is due to the lack of disk space to enable the Microsoft Exchange Information store to start, which will affect the Microsoft Exchagner POP3, Microsoft Exchagner IMAP4 can not start, The user who eventually causes the mailbox cannot log on to his or her own mailbox.

The cause of the problem is found, the author first delete all the files under the "C:winnttemp" directory (about 500MB), and then delete all the log files in the "C:Program Filesexchsrvrmdbdata" (about 3GB). When the server is restarted after the delete operation is completed, the client mailbox users can log on to the mailbox normally, login and send and receive operations can be successful, so the problem is solved. The purpose of removing these files is to free up disk space and enable the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service to start.

Precautions:

The files in the 1.MDBDATA folder are Exchange 2000 log files and database files, with the name format of the log file beginning with E00, and do not delete several files, such as priv1.* and pub1.*, when they are deleted ( These files contain information about each mailbox user and messages on the server, and if you delete any of these files, users will not be able to log on to the mail server, or even the messages they save on the server.

2. Check the disk space of the Exchange 2000 directory on the mail server at regular intervals to ensure that all services for Exchange 2000 are functioning correctly.

3. You can add a hard disk with a large capacity and transfer the Exchange 2000 log files and database files to a large hard drive.
