Lenovo thinks station E32 (I217-LM Nic) install esxi 5.1

Because the work requires installing an esxi5.x for the experiment, we bought a thinkstation which is cost-effective. I have considered it before I buy it. I either install the window system directly, install workstation 10, and Virtualize esxi; or install esxi 5.xon bare metal. I chose the second solution, but the problem arises...

Thankstation motherboard comes with Nic model: Intel Ethernet connection I217-LM, is not esxi 5. X in the default compatibility list, each installation of esxi will prompt: 'No network adapter detected', unable to continue the installation... as a result, we had a long process of solving the problem, checking the information, visiting the forum, and looking for guidance from VM experts... after N tests, the installation was completed successfully. The solution is as follows:

  1. Esxi 5.1 ISO, which is not described in detail;

  2. ESXi-Customizer-v2.7.1, this software is used to encapsulate the NIC driver into esxi ISO, it can be directly used for installation, there is no need to burn the disc, you can directly use the U disk to make the esxi boot disk for installation, here, we will stick the existing methods of netizens for your reference. The links for downloading relevant attachments also include:

    Add NIC Driver to esxi (no Nic is prompted during installation)Transferred from blog of netizen Han bin:

    Create an esxi USB mounting disk from ultraisoWorker sor's blog:

Note here:I didn't use the 'easy start' in the last step --> write a new boot sector --> syslinux option, because the esxi boot USB flash drive created by this option always reports an error during installation, after startup, the system repeatedly prompts 'boot: menu. c32: Not a com32r image'

3. i217-LM NIC Driver: in fact, the above two process is very simple just step by step to get it, the difficulty is always unable to find the correct i217 NIC driver, so esxi has always prompted no network adapter, later I finally Google the driver for Intel I217-LM on a foreigner Website:Net-e1000e-2.3.2.x86_64.vib,In fact, foreigners have encapsulated e1000e into the NIC driver that can be decompressed by VM support. This is also the focus of sharing with everyone. This driver is attached (Decompress the package before using it.), Hoping to help the children's shoes with such problems;
