Master talk about Oracle Spatial

I like Oracle very much. I also like to sum up the lessons learned about Oracle Spatial in my work. Let's talk about this in detail. Oracle Spatial integrates high-performance management technology for Spatial data warehouses on the database server, so that geographic information can be combined with other services and distributed over the INTERNET, all these advantages are leading to the emergence of new spatial data warehouse applications:
1) low cost of ownership
Deploy applications at the enterprise level to centrally store space data, thus reducing the cost of ownership. The Internet/Intranet architecture does not require the installation and maintenance of client software on the desktop, nor the independent storage and management of data outside the enterprise database. Only one standard Internet browser is required on the client.
2) Low Risk
Spatial Information is directly integrated into Oracle Spatial. This facilitates scalable, secure, and high-performance applications. Developers can choose to deploy on any server platform, including Solaris, Unix, Linux, Windows NT, and Windows 2000, and use existing IT resources to manage these applications.
3) High Value
With the Internet, more users can access applications without increasing the cost of organizations. This means that the user can access the key information of the task around the clock.

ARCSDE and Oracle Spatial are also used to store space data, but there are essential differences between the two:
A) management objects are different. Oracle Spatial can only manage the storage and retrieval of simple "point, line, and plane" Spatial elements, while ArcSDE can also manage notes, topological relationships, raster data, and CAD data, it also has version control and long transaction processing mechanisms;
B) data interoperability is different. The formats supported by ArcSDE are consistent with those promulgated by OGC. The formats supported by Oracle Spatial are not fully compatible with the OGC specifications, this will naturally affect the data sharing and interoperability of the GIS system based on the platform;
C) different efficiency. The access and management efficiency of ArcSDE on Spatial data is higher than that of Oracle Spatial, and the efficiency is always a major concern of GIS systems. Therefore, ArcSDE is a more reasonable choice for applications that not only store spatial data.

Advantages:
A) the ArcSDE database is used to access and manage spatial data, which truly realizes data uniqueness and ensures data security.
B) the powerful data analysis, data processing, and data sharing functions of Arc/Info meet a wide range of user needs.
C) efficient retrieval of spatial data and minimal network load.
D. It has an open, powerful, and comprehensive development environment and can be easily integrated with other systems.
E) The modular and scalable features provide greater flexibility in system construction, that is, an independent application or a distributed network application across the world.

Of course, ArcInfo is a solution that requires high security and response performance.

Disadvantages:
A) ArcSDE has strict License restrictions and high prices. If the number of concurrent users in the system is large, the License purchase cost will be high.
B) High database maintenance requirements. Database Maintenance personnel should have good knowledge of Oracle Database and Arc/Info products.

For established high-start and high-standard information systems, taking into account factors such as extension and scalability of Urban Geographic Information Systems, storage of massive data, efficient concurrent access, and openness and security of the system, choosing the Arc/Info series products to build the system is naturally the most ideal choice.
