Microsoft announced at CES on June 13, 2011 that the new version of Windows will support on-chip system SoC, including ARM architecture systems from partner NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments. In the x86 architecture, Intel and AMD will continue to study low-power SoC design that fully supports Windows and native x86 applications. The combination of SoC architecture and Windows platform depth and breadth will bring about a new round of major innovation in the hardware field.

At today's press conference, Microsoft demonstrated the running of the new version of Windows on Intel's x86 architecture and Intel's new SoC Platform Based on ARM architecture in NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments, it also shows Windows client support in various scenarios, such as hardware accelerated graphics and media playback, the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer supports hardware accelerated Web browsing, USB device support, printing, and other computing features that customers want to experience. In addition, Microsoft demonstrated Microsoft Office running on ARM to prove the depth and breadth of Windows's ARM architecture.

Windows will continue to lead the industry and support as many devices as possible to meet customers' wide-ranging needs and provide customers with a wide range of options. Intel and AMD will continue to develop and improve their x86 platforms, including new low-power systems, while promoting new designs, such as the recently announced second-generation intel®Core™The processor family and AMD Fusion acceleration processor APU ). NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments have also joined hands with Microsoft for the first time to provide ARM-based design.

Steven smonoski Steven Sinofsky, president of Microsoft Windows and Windows Live, said: "At today's press conference, we demonstrated the strong performance of software and the company's commitment to world-class engineering technologies, it highlights the flexibility and elasticity of Windows. We will continue to promote the evolution of Windows to provide the features required by customers in the widest range of hardware platforms and products ."

The SoC architecture integrates the main components of computing devices into a silicon chip to make the devices smaller and thinner. This helps reduce device power consumption, increase battery life, and make always-online and always-connected possible. By supporting SoC in the new version of Windows client, Microsoft will enable industry partners to design and develop an unprecedented range of hardware products.

Introduction to chip partners

Manju Hegde, vice president of AMD Fusion experience program
