  I. Intel specification for front-facing audio interfaces

Intel has regulated the front audio interface sockets, cable, and pin names for motherboards and chassis in the Front Panel I/O connectivitydesign Guide. The contents are as follows:

2.3 Audio Connector

2.3.1 Universal Mode

The connector design should support the use of standard front panel microphones and headphones. To be able to use audio directly without the need for special software. 5AU

2.3.2 Feature I

The front panel ' audio connector is designed to support stereo audio output (headphones or active speakers) as well as mic input (one mono).

The mic input (one mono) is connected to a 3.5 mm miniature receptacle mounted on the front panel. The core of the socket is terminated by the mic input signal and the outer ring is terminated with the microphone audio bias signal.

2.3.3 Electrical Matters

Two front panel audio outputs (aud_fpout_l and Aud_fpout_r) and two front panel audio returns (aud_ret_l and Aud_ret_r) are connected to a 3.5 mm miniature receptacle mounted on the front panel on the switch type. The audio signal transmission path is: When the current panel socket is not used, the audio signal of the motherboard output is sent to the front panel socket by aud_fpout_l and Aud_fpout_r. Go through the front panel sockets and return the rear audio sockets of the motherboard by aud_fpout_l and Aud_fpout_r. When the current audio socket is plugged into the headset, the switches in the socket (aud_fpout_l and Aud_ret_l,aud_fpout_r and Aud_ret_r) are disconnected, the audio signal to the motherboard is disconnected, the rear socket has no audio signal, and there is no audio signal on the front.

Note: Audio output can only use headphones or active speakers, if the use of passive speakers, the sound is very small.

2.3.6 jumper

If the front audio cable is not connected to the front audio connection seat of the motherboard, the 5 and 6,9 and 10 pins of the connecting seat should be shortened with jumpers, otherwise the rear audio outlet is invalid.

  Second, front headphone sockets and microphone sockets

Common front headphone sockets and MIC sockets are shown below:

Each outlet in the figure has a switch-type and non-switching type. According to Intel's specifications, the headphone socket is switch-type, the mic socket can be used non-switch type. Now some chassis factory to reduce costs, front-mounted headphone sockets are also non-switch type. Switch-type and non-switch pin wiring are shown below:

Figure 4 in 1 of the socket is a standard switch-type (5-pin), 2 of the socket is a simplified type without switch (3-pin), 3 is the microphone socket. The first standard switch type headphone socket has 5 pins, of which 5, 9 is the right left channel output, 9, 10 is the right and left channel return. This receptacle and microphone socket wiring together a total of 8, of which 2 ground can be combined so that the connection line at least 7. The second kind of simplified non-switch type socket does not have 6, 10 pins, the left and right channels of the return line and the output line is merged, so on the one end of the connection to the motherboard output line must be divided into two plug caps, in order to short-connect 5, 6 and 9, 10, to ensure that the rear socket connection audio output. The pins of the socket in the figure are labeled with the Intel Specification name and PIN number, and the connection lines of the two sockets are shown as follows:

Figure 4 in 1 is the standard plug cap, 4 headphones, 2 mic, 1 ground. Although the line name is not exactly the same as the Intel specification, it can be seen (then the small pin caps cannot print so many words). Line out Rl/line out RR is the right channel output/return, line out Fl/line out FR is left channel output/return. GND is the ground, mic in is the microphone input, mic power is the microphone bias voltage. The number on the left is the pin number of the corresponding motherboard front audio socket.

The output lines of the left and right channels are divided into two caps for 5, 6 and 9, 10 short.   Third, the headset plug

in general, the front audio is mainly used to connect the headset, the headset plug is headphones and Mike separate, are using three-core plug. Mike is basically a condenser microphone, the connection line only two, the standard method is the two core short to a left microphone output line, the jacket as I ground wire, as shown below.

As a result, the 915/925 motherboard's two front-facing audio sockets no longer have headphones, Mac points, which can be inserted arbitrarily. However, the two audio sockets on the front panel of the chassis must be the switch-type (5-pin) described earlier, which is not possible without a switch (3-pin). As shown in the following figure.

So configuring the chassis for HD Audio motherboards is a good choice for HD Audio chassis, or for HD audio dedicated.

Using the current 3-pin mic socket chassis, microphone sockets can not be plugged into stereo speakers, can only plug the headset. Software settings are required when using the front-facing mic. Go to the Sound recording section of the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box. The default setting for this item is C-media Azalia Rear panel, which switches it to C-media Azalia Front panel.

Front audio port connection, headphones generally do not have any problems, Mike will often have problems, because some chassis of the front microphone socket wiring method is not standard. The following diagram lists the differences between standard and non-standard wiring:

The standard wiring has three lines: ground, mic input, mic offset. There are two non-standard lines: ground and mic input, and the mike offset is saved. Non-standard 1 is the socket 1, 3 short, non-standard 2 is 3 feet empty. These two kinds of mic_in to the JAUD1 1 feet can be used. Non-standard 3 is to put 2, 3 short, non-standard 4 is the mic_in to 3 feet, these two plugs into the standard plug of the microphone must be no sound, unless also with the corresponding connection of the non-standard plug microphone.

  Seven, front-facing audio cable

The front audio cable is also specified in the Intel specification: the left and right channels, the mic, and the aud_vcc/hp_on are all paired, and the lines are combined to shield the outer layer. Refer to the following image:

The domestic chassis does not see a front audio line that conforms to this standard. This standard audio line reduces interference and reduces noise. This audio cable may be available for 915/925 chassis that are specially equipped.
