Install MySQL automatically with automated setup

The new MySQL 5.0 user can use the MySQL Setup Wizard and the MySQL Configuration Wizard to install MySQL on Windows. The two wizards are designed to make it easier for new users to use MySQL quickly. The MySQL Installation Wizard and the MySQL Configuration Wizard are all available in the MySQL Full installation package, and both wizards are recommended in most standard MySQL setup programs. Exceptions to the two wizards include the need for users to install multiple MySQL instances on a single server and advanced users to fully acquire the configuration of advanced servers.

Introduction using the MySQL Setup Wizard

The MySQL Installation Wizard is a setup program for the MySQL server, which is the latest installation technology for Microsoft Windows. The MySQL Setup Wizard, combined with the MySQL Configuration Wizard, helps users quickly install and configure a MySQL server so that the server can be used quickly after installation. The MySQL Setup Wizard is an installer that is standard for all MySQL5.0 release editions. Prior to the MySQL Installation Wizard to install MySQL, the previous MySQL version of the user needs to manually close and delete the existing MySQL appliance.

Microsoft has included an improved version of Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) in its recent Windows release. MSI has become the de facto standard for applications on Windows2000,windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The MySQL Installation Wizard will fully use this technology to provide a more stable and flexible installation process. The Microsoft Windows Installer mechanism is updated with the release of XP. Users with previous versions of Windows can refer to this Microsoft knowledge Base article to obtain information about the latest version of the Windows Installer mechanism update. At the same time, Microsoft has recently introduced the WiX (Windows Installer XML) toolkit. This is the first known Open-source project from Microsoft. Since it's an open source project, we've moved into WiX and it allows us to take a more flexible, scripted approach to the implementation of the entire Windows installation process.

The MySQL Installation Wizard's improvements depend on the support and feedback of users like you. If you think the MySQL Setup wizard lacks some important features, or if you find a bug, use our MySQL Bug system to request features or report problems.

Download and start the MySQL Setup Wizard

The MySQL server installation package can be downloaded from the following Web site: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/. If you download a package that is in a zip archive, then you first need to decompress. The program that starts the Setup wizard depends on the contents of the installation package you downloaded. If there is a Setup.exe file, double-click him to start the installation process. If an. msi file exists, you will need to double-click him to start the installation process.

  Select installation Type

There are three types of installations: Typical, complete and customizable. Typical installation type installs MySQL server, MySQL command line client and command-line application. command line clients and programs include Mysqldump, Myisamchk, and several other tools to help you manage your MySQL server. The full installation type is installed in all the contents of the installation package. The entire installation package includes, for example, embedded service libraries, benchmark kits, support scripts, and documentation. The Custom installation type allows you to fully control the entire package you want to install, and you can choose which package type and installation path you want to install. If you choose a typical installation or a full installation, you will immediately advance to the confirmation screen to confirm your selection and start the installation at the same time.

  Custom Installation dialog box

If you need to change the installation path or change the details installed by the MySQL Installation Wizard, you should choose a custom installation type. All available content is listed in a tree-shaped structure at the left end of the Custom Installation dialog box. The contents of the selected installation have a red X mark, and the contents of the selected installation have a white mark. You can click on the content icon and choose a new option from the Drop-down menu that appears to determine whether a content is installed. You can modify the default installation path by clicking the "Modify ..." button to the right of the displayed installation path. After choosing your installation path and installation content, click the "Next" button to go to the confirmation dialog box.

  Confirmation dialog box

Once you have selected the installation type and your installation content, the confirmation dialog box will pop up. Your installation type and installation path will be displayed for you to revisit your selections. If you are satisfied with your settings, you can click the "Install" button to install MySQL. If you need to change your settings, you can click the "Back" button. If you quit the MySQL Setup wizard without installing MySQL, you can click the Cancel button. Once the installation is complete, you will be offered a copy of the option to register the MySQL site. Registration allows you to access the Forums.mysql.com forum mail, while reporting errors in bugs.mysql.com can also be submitted to the real-time communications device. The final act of Setup is that the installer will provide an overview of the entire installation while providing an opportunity for you to open the MySQL Configuration Wizard, you can use the Configuration Wizard to generate a configuration file, install MySQL service and configure security.

Changes made by the MySQL installation Wizard

Once you click on the "Install" button, the MySQL Setup Wizard will begin the installation process and modify your system as follows:

  Modifications to the registry

In a typical installation scenario, the MySQL Setup Wizard will generate a Windows registry key that is located in Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremysql AB. When installing a major server version such as the MySQL Server 5.0 version, the MySQL Setup Wizard will generate a named key after the installation is complete. The named key includes two strings, that is, the location string and the version string. The location string contains the installation path. Under the default installation, it contains C:Program filesmysqlmysql Server 5.0. The version string includes the publication number. For example, for a MySQL Server 5.0.13-RC installation, the key value contains 5.0.13-RC values. The registration key value is used to assist the external tool to identify the MySQL server installation path and to avoid a full scan of the hard disk. The registry key value is not required to open the service, and the registry key value is not generated when the Noinstall ZIP archive installation is used.

For changes to the Start menu

The MySQL Setup Wizard generates a new MySQL menu entry in the Windows boot menu when the selected major MySQL installation version is installed. For example, when you install the MySQL 5.0,mysql Installation Wizard, the MySQL Server 5 part is generated in the Start menu. The new starter menu mainly includes the following:

mysql command line client: This is a MySQL name the shortcut to the line client is also configured to connect to the root user. The shortcut needs to enter the root user password when connecting.

MySQL Service Immediate Configuration wizard: This is a shortcut to the MySQL Configuration Wizard. Use this shortcut to configure an up-to-date installation server, or to reconfigure a server that already exists.

MySQL Documentation: This is a link to the server documentation that exists in the MySQL Server installation path. This option is not available when the MySQL server is installed by streamlining. Changes to the file system

The MySQL Installation Wizard will install the MySQL service to C:Program filesmysqlmysql Server 5.0 By default, which is the default location for your system's applications, and MySQL is the major version of the MySQL server. This is a new recommended path for the MySQL server, instead of the previous default path C:mysql.

By default, all MySQL applications are stored in a common path C:Program filesmysql, where Program files is the default application location for your Windows installation. On a developer's machine, a typical MySQL installation might be as follows:

C:Program Filesmysqlmysql Server 5.0

C:Program Filesmysqlmysql Administrator 1.0

C:Program Filesmysqlmysql Query Browser 1.0

This approach makes all MySQL applications installed on specific systems easier to manage and maintain
