MySQL Spatial Data Types

MySQL has a data type that corresponds to the OpenGIS class. Some types can only save a single geometric value:

· GEOMETRY

· POINT

· LINESTRING

· POLYGON

GEOMETRY can store geometric values of any type. Other Single-value types such as POINT, LINESTRING, and POLYGON can only save values of specific geometric types.

Other data types can save multiple values:

· MULTIPOINT

· MULTILINESTRING

· MULTIPOLYGON

· GEOMETRYCOLLECTION

GEOMETRYCOLLECTION can store any type of object set. For other collection types, MULTIPOINT, MULTILINESTRING, MULTIPOLYGON, and GEOMETRYCOLLECTION are limited to set members with specific geometric types.
