MySQL SQL and & OR operators

The and and or operators are used to filter records based on more than one condition.

And and OR operators

And and or can combine two or more conditions in a where child statement.

If both the first and second conditions are true, the AND operator displays a record.

If one of the first and second conditions is true, the OR operator displays a record.

The original table (in the example):

Address City

LastName	FirstName
Adams	John	Oxford Street	London
Bush	George	Fifth Avenue	New York
Carter	Thomas	Changan Street	Beijing
Carter	William	Xuanwumen 10	Beijing

And operator Instance

Use and to display all people with the surname "Carter" and the Name "Thomas":

ANDLastname= ' Carter '

Results:

Address City

LastName	FirstName
Carter	Thomas	Changan Street	Beijing

Instance of OR operator

Use or to display all people whose last name is "Carter" or "Thomas":

ORLastname= ' Carter '

Results:

Address City

LastName	FirstName
Carter	Thomas	Changan Street	Beijing
Carter	William	Xuanwumen 10	Beijing

Combining and and OR operators

We can also combine and and or (use parentheses to compose complex expressions):

(ORFirstname= ' William ' )
AND lastname= ' Carter '

Results:

LastName	FirstName	address	Ci Ty
Carter	Thomas	Changan Street	Beijing
Carter	William	xuanwumen Beijing
