A virtual machine can have multiple snapshots (Restore point) and has powerful snapshot management functions, allowing you to easily set and manage multiple snapshots.
The emergence of snapshot can make a virtual machine in different states, such as Windows XP without patching, Windows XP with SP1 Patch, and Windows XP with SP2 patch, etc, it can quickly switch to virtual machines in different States at any time, just as our own system has made many ghost images in different States. This function is useful for testing the running status of software in different versions of Windows.

Instance: creates different snapshots for different Windows XP instances.

Step 1: first create a virtual machine and install the original version of Windows XP.

Step 2: click "VM → snapshot → take snapshot" in the menu, and enter the restore origin name in "name", for example, "No SP ", enter a simple description in "Description.

Step 3: Install the SP1 Patch for Windows XP on the VM, create a Restore Point named "with SP1" in step 1, and install the sp2 patch again, create a Restore Point named "with SP2.

Step 4: If you want to access Windows XP without Patches, you only need to select "VM> snapshot manager" in the menu and double-click "No SP ", at this time, VMWare will prompt you to restore to the selected status and lose the current data. Click "yes" to restore. In this way, the current status will be restored from "with SP2" to "no sp.

Tips

After the Restore point is established, another branch is derived from the no sp point, so that a multi-level state can be established.

Virtual Group

The virtual group feature allows you to conveniently manage multiple interconnected virtual machines and simulate multiple network connection configurations similar to the actual situation.

After two or more virtual machines are created, they can be grouped into virtual groups, which can be simply understood as virtual networks. After a virtual group is created, you can easily create and exchange data in two virtual machines and test various software.

Instance: groups two systems into virtual groups.

Step 1: Select "File> New> Team" in the menu, click "Next", and enter the group name in "team name, in "location", enter the path for saving the virtual group file and select "Next ".

Step 2: "wocould you like to add virtual machines to the team now?" will pop up ?" (Whether to join the VM now), select "no, I will add Virtual Machine later", and click "Next.

Step 3: "wocould you like to add LAN segments to the team now ?" (Whether to configure the network now), select "no, I will add LAN segments later", and click "finish ".

Step 4: Return to the VMware main interface, select the created virtual group, and click the "Team> Settings" menu item. In the pop-up window, click the "virtual machines" tab, click the "add" button, select "existing virtual machines" (an existing virtual machine), select a virtual machine file, and complete the adding.

Tips

★All virtual machines added to the virtual group are not displayed in the left-side window of VMware. If you want to add the virtual machines to the virtual group while retaining them, you can click "add → New Clone of virtual machines" (add → clone Virtual Machine), and then select the virtual machine to be added.

★The same virtual machine can only be added to one virtual group.
Step 5: click the "Lan segments" tab to set different network bandwidths, such as modem (56 Kbps) and cable (4 Mbps, this can simulate different network environments.

Step 6: Click the Connections tab to configure the network connection of the virtual machine, such as the bandwidth used to connect to the network.
Step 7: Click the virtual group on the left side of the window. The right side of the window is divided into two panes. The pane above shows all the virtual machines in the current virtual unit, and the selected virtual machines are shown below.
Clone Function

VMware's new clone feature allows users to conveniently copy multiple identical virtual machines to share with colleagues and friends. It can be divided into full clone and linked clone ). As the name implies, full clone means completely copying the virtual machine, and the linked clone feature is a sub-Virtual Machine Based on a parent virtual machine.

Do you know?

Difference between full clone and linked clone

Full clone is a completely independent virtual machine. Its execution efficiency is the same as that of the cloned Virtual Machine. However, compared with linked clone, full clone consumes more space and is slow in cloning.

Linked clone depends on the cloned Virtual Machine (master machine). If the master machine has a problem, the cloned virtual machine will also have a problem. However, it occupies less disk space and the cloning speed is fast. If a project team needs to use a virtual machine to test software bugs, It is very convenient to use linked clone, and the virtual machine can be exchanged through mail.

Instance: create a full clone for the current Virtual Machine

Step 1: select the virtual machine to be cloned on the left of the window, select "VM> clone" from the menu, open the clone window, and click "Next" to prepare for cloning.

Step 2: The clone selection screen will appear. "from current state" indicates the current cloning status, and "from snapshot" indicates cloning from a restore origin. Select as needed, select "from current state" and click "Next"

Step 3: select the clone option and select "Create a linked clone" to use the Link clone function. Select "Create a full clone" and click "Next ". After setting the name and storage location of the cloned virtual machine, click "finish. Note that the cloned Virtual Machine file cannot be stored in the same directory as the original file.

Video Recording and Playback

The new video and playback function allows you to easily record operations in a virtual machine as AVI video files. The graphic or video tutorials for installing the system are usually captured/recorded in the virtual machine. In the past, recording software was required to be enabled during the operation of the recording virtual machine, occupying system resources. You can now use the video recording feature provided by VMware to record operations in a virtual machine.

Example: recording video tutorials for cainiao

Step 1: Start the VM and select "VM> capture movie" from the menu ".

Step 2: select the storage location and select "low (better for e-mailing)" in "quality" (low quality. During the test, the video at 1 minute 30 seconds is less than KB ), start record

Step 3: after recording, select "VM> stop movie capture" in the menu to complete the recording.

Other new features

The new version of vmwareimproves the capability to support the new operating system. It adds a series of USB device drivers to use the new vmrun.exe command line tool. You can create and configure virtual machines as scripts, and then run them.
