New technology greatly improves the efficiency of multi-hop wireless networks

Multi-hop wireless networks provide data access to large and unconventional hard-line areas, but because of the complexity of routing, suboptimal Path management, and delays caused by multi-hop relaying, they have long faced significant constraints on the amount of data they can transmit.

Now researchers from North Carolina State State University have developed a more efficient way of transmitting data, called core-based power controls, which can significantly increase the amount of information the network can transmit.

Dr Rudra Dutta, an associate professor of computer science from North Carolina State, said: "Our approach can increase the amount of network data transmitted at least 20% on a randomly placed network-if the node is positioned within the cluster network, it can increase by as much as 80%." ”

If the nodes are powered by batteries, this method also makes the network more energy-efficient and can prolong the network's lifetime.

Multi-hop wireless networks use nodes to propagate to each space, and these nodes can not only capture and propagate data, but also serve as a staging point for other nodes. But these networks have "hotspots"--where multiple wireless transmissions of the network can interfere with each other, making it possible to speed up the capacity of the network data transfer. Nodes must rotate the data at these congestion points that cause delays.

Traditionally, there are two ways to deal with this problem. In a short distance, low power transmission data can be used, which limits the degree of interference with other nodes. In this case, however, the data transfer may pass through many nodes before it reaches its final destination. Another approach is to use high power to transmit data, which means that the data can be sent farther and delivered more quickly. The drawback is that powerful transmissions can interfere with the transmission of many other nodes.

North Carolina State's researchers Dutta and Ph.D's students Parth Pathak created what they call the core-based power controls that are used to solve this problem. It employs an algorithm that directs how much power each node in a network can use in each data transmission, based primarily on the final destination of its transmission. This algorithm determines when it is worthwhile to use powerful data transfers and increases the interruption of signals and when a less powerful transfer of data is required. The result is a holistic leap up in system efficiency.

The Journal of Computer Communications published an article on the web entitled "Core-based power control in Multi-hop wireless networks to achieve hotspot mitigation", which details how to better mitigate hot spots in wireless sensor networks:

Based on the core concept of heuristic, we show that if we only increase the power level of the nodes, more packets are expected to be relayed, even if the shortest path route is used, the important relay load balancing can be achieved. Unlike the divergent routing patterns, such load-balancing strategies apply to arbitrary topologies and traffic patterns. With the abundant simulation, we show that the core based power control can greatly improve the network life of the Sensor network. We are with other divergent routing patterns and multiple battery level allocation policies?? Perform performance comparisons. In addition, it shows that the core based power control in many different topologies can achieve better throughput capacity.
