Oracle SQL Developer was often used for simple database operations on Windows PC. This is a JAVA application, and it should obviously be able to run on the newly installed Ubuntu 8.04. It was only installed today that it still takes some effort to use it.
The first problem I encountered was that after I started SQL Developer, there was only one form box on the main interface and the content was not displayed. Instead, I could see the "Daily prompt ". Google, find a related article (Google's cache may not be available ), it is a known issue because I have started Visual Effects of Ubuntu to some incompatibility with Java Swing after the "Extra" level. The simplest solution is to turn off the Visual Effects of Ubuntu. Of course, I don't want to do this. Another way is to add the following sentence to the second line of the sqldeveloper. sh script:
Export AWT_TOOLKIT = "MToolkit"
Finally, you can see the SQL Developer interface!
But soon I found another problem. Chinese characters in the database have all become blocks. This problem is caused by the absence of fonts in Java. For details, refer to the description in section 7 of Chinese Debian Mini Howto5.7. The solution is to copy the file to create a/{Your jdk path}/jre/lib/fonts/fallback directory, then copy or link the Chinese fonts that can be normally used in the system to this directory.
