Objective-C Enum and typedef

Today, we can see Enum and typedef. Two examples are shown in the two sections:

Enum direction {north, south, east, west };

Typedef Enum {north, south, east, west} direction;

I can't help wondering what are the differences between the two. I checked them carefully and found that:

Similar,

Same: both declare an enumeration type.

Difference: when using this enumeration type to define variables, the syntax is different, for example:

1   Enum Direction {north, south, east, west };
3   Enum Direction facing = North;
4
5 Typedef Enum {North, south, east, west} direction;
7 Direction facing = North;
