Oracle has made ten commitments to MySQL User developers. in the recent period, the merger of Oracle and SUN was of great concern to many developers, this is mainly because the ease of ownership of the MYSQL database may lead to new changes. this week, Oracle made ten commitments to MySQL users, developers, and customers.

Oracle and the European Commission held a constructive discussion on the Oracle SUN transaction case and promised to maintain MySQL's competitiveness in the database market. Oracle made public its ten commitments for further EU approval:

1. ensure the continuous availability of Storage Engine APIs.
Oracle guarantees and regularly strengthens the pluggable storage engine architecture of MySQL, allowing users to flexibly choose to provide storage engines from local and third-party products. This guarantee means that the current MySQL usage policy is valid and allows storage engine vendors that comply with SUN files to access the MySQL database.

2. do not claim commitment.
As a copyright holder, Oracle will change SUN's current policy without claiming or threatening anyone. third-party providers of storage engines must be released based on GPL because they have implemented an application programming interface effective, as part of MySQL's plug-in storage engine architecture. Commercial licenses do not require Oracle requests. Oracle will copy this commitment to a contract with a storage vendor that has a commercial license with SUN.

3. license commitment.
When their current MySQL OEM Agreement is terminated, Oracle will provide these storage vendors with the same license conditions as SUN, no more than 2014. Oracle will copy this commitment to a contract with a storage vendor that has a commercial license with SUN.

4. committed to strengthening the GPL-based MySQL release in the future.
Later MySQL versions, including version 6, will be released through GPL. Oracle will not release a new enterprise enhanced edition without publishing a community Enhanced Edition. Oracle will continue to make the source code of all MySQL Community versions public and provide them for free.

5. support is not mandatory.
MySQL. customers are not required to obtain support services from Oracle as a condition for purchasing a commercial license.

6. increase R & D spending on MySQL.

Oracle promises to provide the appropriate funds (GPL version and commercial version) that can be used for the continued development of MySQL ). In the next three years, Oracle will invest more in MySQL R & D than SUN's in the latest fiscal year ($24 million), before the transaction is completed.

7. set up a MySQL customer advisory committee.
No later than the first anniversary of six months, Oracle will create and fund a customer advisory committee, including guidance and feedback from end users and embedded customers, as a MySQL development priority, and other important issues of MySQL customers.

8. set up a MySQL Storage Engine Supplier Advisory Committee.
No later than the first anniversary of six months, Oracle will create and fund a Storage Engine Supplier Advisory Committee to provide guidance and feedback as a priority for MySQL development, and other important issues of MySQL storage engine vendors.

9. MySQL Reference Manual.
For MySQL Reference Manuals, Oracle will continue to be updated and downloaded for free, and the quality will be consistent with that provided by SUN.

10. the customer support service will continue.
Oracle will ensure that paying end users and embedded customers provide MySQL support services and update the subscription based on customers' preferences.

These commitments are global and continue until the fifth anniversary of the completion of the transaction.
