"Even if you have good ideas and technologies, you need a customer to discover problems for you ." Courtot said.

"Selling commercial software will make a lot of money at the beginning, but the subsequent sustained revenue is only about 20% ." Courtot warned, "The only way to grow is to continuously launch new software and sell it at a higher price. This is obviously not feasible ."

"If it is a cloud computing service, the customer will continue to pay for it. You can increase the revenue of each customer by providing more services. The more services they use, the more dependent they will be on you ." Courtot said that the average contract time of qualys customers is about six years.

  1. Ready to reconstruct the entire service system and provide cloud computing services in a single direction. If you want to continue expanding your business, you need to be ready to reconstruct your service architecture.

Qualys was initially a cloud computing service built in PHP. Several years later, courtot knew that the company had to rewrite everything in Java. Because Java can provide more and faster services.
