Introduction:
Hello everyone. In this tutorial I will tell you how I made the image of the Audi R8 crash effect. First look at the final finish, and try to figure out the easiest way to make it.

OK, before we start, I want to clarify one thing, I got a lot of "why not Houdini" or "why instead of 2D for special effects production" problem. When you do any digital artwork, I always think you should consider what work procedure you will use to create your artwork. For different jobs, they are completely dissimilar. For example, if you want to create an animation or a multiple-frame project. So most of the details will be done in 3D. But if it's just a frame, I suggest you choose the simplest, quickest way. That's what I'm going to tell you in this tutorial.

First of all, the most important step is the final stage of the production of this picture, so this is what I will focus on in this tutorial. A satisfactory image, made with 3D is enough, and the rest of us will be in Photoshop. We need to find some textures for the car, some dirty black, and the image of the car. Look, I'm all set up here. (Figure 01)

Figure 01

Create this shape, this is very simple. With only a few ffd and fixed-point edits, rotate some of the fragments there. Remember to break the Audi mark.

After you finish making the footage in 3D (preferably with high resolution), open Photoshop and put them all in. As you can see, I didn't spend much time on the quality of the underlying picture, it was because you would create a car crash screen, dirty and dusty, so why clean it up?

The white Audi image is our base layer in Photoshop. I need a darker color (like black), a picture of an enclosed environment and a black-and-white mask. So move the black Audi onto the top floor and then give the mask image a mask, so we only have the top black car shape. Then, using the Eraser tool, just wipe off the black Audi. Listen to me right; in fact we do not add dirt, remove it! It will be easier and better because there are always some "dirty" areas, which will make the body dirtier, which is exactly what we need. It is best to use a custom dirty brush to erase.

This is the first layer that I have cleared. (Figure 02)

Figure 02

When you get a good idea, the rest of the story becomes easy. Do the same thing on each layer, using different shapes of brushes to wipe out random dirty effects. Feel free to use your eraser tool and try to think that you are actually cleaning a car.

Here are some of the results I've had after further cleanup. (Figure 03)

Now we're going to add some basic live lighting and special effects. Just repeat the mask on the white Audi layer, then use a diffuse light filter and mix it with soft light so that the white area looks brighter. Then, blur the background and add some smoke effects around the door. (Figure 04)

OK, now is the most interesting part: the Shattered glass. There are hundreds of ways to do this, such as using a default particle system like Houdini, that we will do with the particle system. It depends on which one you choose, but as I said just now, the easiest and quickest way to use it is to use 3DS Max. We're going to use a lot of particles, some bombs, and maybe a P-bomb particle system to make some custom-made objects, like a ball or cylinder. Render your explosions and store them in a channel. Don't worry about shapes; These can be modified in Photoshop.

These are the results I've tried for a few minutes. (Figure 05)
