1, incorrect BIOS settings cause invalid port

When you encounter the above symptom, you should first check whether the printer and the corresponding port in the computer is connected, if the physical connection between them is good, the fault is mostly the corresponding print port in the computer caused by invalid. At this point, you can restart the computer system, and then open the BIOS Parameter settings screen to check if the Print Port setting options are correct. For example, if the printer you want to add to the system is a parallel port, you should find the "Onboard Parallel port" setting option in the BIOS setup page and see if its value is set to "Enabled" and if it is set to "Disable" The system will definitely prompt you not to add the printer, if you want to add to the system of the printer is a USB port, it is necessary to check the computer motherboard is the USB port is enabled, when checking the USB port is valid, you can first find the BIOS setup interface "PNP and PCI Setup project, or find the "Pnp/pci Configuration" item and see if the "USB Function" or "Assign IRQ for USB" parameter under the corresponding item is set to "Disable", and if so, The value must be modified to enable to make the computer's USB port valid.

Tip: When adding a USB interface printer, if the computer is connected to a number of USB interface external devices, it is also easy to be unable to add a printer phenomenon, this is because each USB external device to achieve a certain power power to work properly, and too many USB external devices connected to the computer at the same time, it is easy to cause the printer's USB port can not get enough power from the computer, so the system will not be able to add the printer. To avoid this, you must either use a USB printer that supports standalone power, or temporarily unplug other USB devices that are connected to your computer to make sure the printer is getting the power you need. It is also important to note that if the USB interface in the motherboard of the computer is inconsistent with the USB interface standard of the printer, it is also very easy to be unable to add the printer, in order to avoid this phenomenon, all you can do is to upgrade the computer motherboard, or install the USB interface printer to the new computer.

2. System file corruption causes program error

If the above method does not solve the inability to add printer failures, it is likely that the system in the Add Printer program related to the system files are accidentally damaged or missing, causing the Add Printer program to run an error occurred. In order to verify that the Windows system files are damaged, you can try to repair the damaged system files as follows:

Click the start/Run command, and then in the System Run dialog box that appears, enter the string command "Sfc/scannow", and when you click the OK button, the Windows system will automatically scan the computer system files and encounter the corrupted system files. You are automatically prompted to insert the system installation disc and then repair the damaged file. When the repair operation is finished, you may wish to restart the computer system, and then try to add a printer to see.

Tip: If the computer connected to the printer is often connected to the network, you may wish to upgrade the antivirus program online to the latest version, and then the system to completely and thoroughly kill the virus, to see if there is a virus in the system in mischief!

3, Improper printing settings cause installation is forbidden

If the user in order to prevent other people in their own computer to install the printer, the printer's property parameters have been appropriately set up, so that the normal user does not add printer permissions, then you can double-click the Add Printer icon, you will not be able to add a printer failure prompt. To check if the Add Printer permission is disabled on your local computer, you can do this by following these steps:

First click the Run command on the Start menu, and in the subsequent Run dialog box, enter the string command "Regedit" and click the "OK" button in the Run box to open the registry editing interface;

Second, in the registry editing interface, expand the registry sub-key Hkey_current_usersoftware Microsoftwindowscurrentversionpoliciesexplorer, in the "explorer" In the right-side window area of the subkey, check to see if there is a double-byte value named "Noaddprinter" (Figure 1), and then double-click the "Noaddprinter" key with the mouse if the key value exists. In the Numeric Settings dialog box that appears, see if its value is "1", if it proves that the local computer does prohibit the Add Printer permission, you can change its value to "0", then click the "OK" button, then press "F5" function key to refresh the registry settings. The Add Printer permission on the local computer is then re-enforced.

4, improper system settings cause insufficient authority

If you are in a Windows 2003 Server system, double-clicking the Add Printer icon in the Printer List window, and you cannot add a printer failure, most of the time you do not have the appropriate settings for your system, causing users to not have sufficient privileges to add printers. Considering that the Windows 2003 Server system works in fully secure mode by default, this mode restricts normal users from installing new programs into the system at will. To verify that the Windows 2003 Server system is working in fully secure mode, you can do this in the following steps:

First click the start/Settings/Control Panel command, in the pop-up Control panel window, double-click the Administrative Tools icon, and then in the list of administrative tools that appears, double-click the Terminal Services Configuration item to open the Terminal Server configuration interface of the system, as shown in Figure 2;

Then select the "Server Settings" item on the left side of the interface, and in the right-hand area of the "Server settings" you can see whether "Permission Compatibility" is set to "Full security mode" or "Relaxed Safe mode", and if it is set to "Full security mode", That proves that the inability to add a printer failure is due to insufficient authority;

At this point you must double-click on the "Permissions Compatibility" item, and in the Project Settings window that appears, set the "Permissions Compatibility" to "relaxed safe mode" so that ordinary users have the right to add new printers to the Windows 2003 Server System.

5. System service stopped causing add error

In addition to the above reasons for adding printer errors, if the printer-related system services accidentally stopped unexpectedly, it may also cause such a failure to occur. In general, printer-related system services are primarily "Print Spooler" services, and if this service is stopped, you may not be able to successfully add printers to the computer system. When checking whether the Print Spooler service is stopped, you can follow these steps:

Click the start/Run command, and in the System Run dialog box that pops up, enter the string command "Services.msc" and click the "OK" button to open the system's Service list interface;

Select the print Spooler service in the interface and right-click it to execute the Properties command from the popup shortcut menu, open the Service's Property Settings window (shown in Figure 3), where you can clearly see the current running status of the print Spooler service. If it is found that the service has been banned or disabled, you can set its startup type to "Automatic" in the Service property settings interface, click the "Start" button, and then restart the computer system, and perhaps later to add the printer will be successful. In addition, if the system Plug and Play service is stopped, it is also easy to create a variety of strange printing problems, so when you find that the system does not add the correct printer, you may wish to check the system's Plug and Play service is normal.
