In an interview after his speech, Matthew said that software patents "absolutely" impede the pace of innovation. However, he did not call for the abolition of software patents as other peers in the open source code movement.

Last week, Microsoft claimed that open-source software infringes on its 235 patents. Red Hat is one of Microsoft's targets. Microsoft hopes to reach a Patent License Agreement with open source code vendors, but the two sides seem unlikely to reach a win-win solution.

In his speech, Matthew called on open-source programmers not to infringe on others' patents. He said that I have discussed with many of the open source code circles that always respect intellectual property rights.

Matthew pointed out that it would be very helpful if Microsoft could not only share these 235 patents, but all of them. He said that no responsible vendor will intentionally infringe on others' patents.

Red Hat also applies for software patents, but only plans to use them for "self-defense ". Matthew says patents have some value. If an idea is original, there is no doubt that it is valuable to the people and organizations who propose the idea.
