For every computer enthusiast, we are very concerned about the read/write speed of the optical drive, especially when installing software. Changing the optical drive with better performance is our goal forever, but it is limited to embarrassment. Increasing the cache for the optical drive is an effective way to improve the read/write speed of the existing optical drive, because Windows 98 recommends quad-speed or higher-speed optical drive access, which is not consistent with the popular Optical Drive. To adapt to the popular drive with a speed greater than 16, we can modify the Registry to increase the cache size and pre-read performance of the drive to speed up the operation of the drive, limits the performance of the optical drive.
1. Open the Registry Editor (start → run → Regedit );
2. Locate the "hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetcontrolfilesystemcdfs" branch;
3. find cachesize and prefetch in the window on the right of the item. If you select a quad-speed or higher-speed optical drive access method recommended by Windows 98, the values of these two items are "6b020000" and "e4000000". In this case, we can modify the actual usage of our own optical drive. If the optical drive is often used for multimedia playback, you can change the cachesize value to "d6040000", and "ac090000" is the maximum value of the optical drive cache. To ensure the consistent speed of the high-speed optical drive, you can modify the prefetch value. For example, if the 8-fold speed is "c0010000", the 16-fold speed is "80030000", and the 24-fold speed is "40050000 ", the 32-plus speed is "00070000 ".
Note: If you modify two key values, the optical drive will not work properly. If you cannot play VCD normally, Please reduce the value to a lower level.
Then, exit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
