This article gives you a comprehensive description of how to implement folder sharing within the LAN in Ubuntu.
Do you have more than one computer in your home? When you need to transfer data from an Ubuntu computer to another computer, do you have to use a USB disk or SD card? Do you also find this method annoying? I think it must be. The purpose of this article is to save you valuable time by allowing you to quickly and easily transfer files, documents, and other large data within a local area network. Once you've set it up once, and then you're free to share files between Ubuntu and Windows, of course it's the same with other Linux systems. Don't worry, it's easy to do and won't take much time.
In addition, although this article is practiced on Ubuntu, this tutorial is also useful on other Linux systems.
Implementing LAN Shared Folders on Ubuntu
Step One:
To implement the LAN shared folder on Ubuntu, right-click the folder you intend to share and select Local network Share:
Possible Troubleshooting solutions: If you do not see the "Local network Share" option in the right-click menu, create a new terminal and install the Nautlius-share plugin using the following command:
The code is as follows:
sudo apt-get install Nautilus-share
Then restart the Nautilus. You can choose to log off and log in again, or use this command:
The code is as follows:
Nautilus-q
Step Two:
Once you click on "Local network Share", you will receive the option to share the folder. Simply select the "Share This folder" (Share this) item:
Possible Troubleshooting solutions: If you are prompted to share a service that is not installed, as shown in the following illustration, click Install Service and follow the prompts.
Step Three:
When you select the option "Share this Folder", you will see that the button "create Share (Build share)" becomes clickable. You can also "Allow others to create and delete fies into this folder (allowing other users to edit files in shared Folders)". The same is true of the option "Guest access (allow visitors)".
You will see that the folder icon is already displayed as shared. If you want to stop sharing a folder, simply cancel the "Share this floder" option.
