Windows 98 is usually shut down, but the system does not respond. There are many reasons for this phenomenon, which can be solved from the following five aspects:

1. Check whether some hardware is incompatible with quick shutdown.

Quick shutdown is a new feature in Windows 98, which can greatly reduce the shutdown time. However, this function is incompatible with some hardware and may cause the computer to stop responding. In the "run" dialog box, type "Msconfig" in the "open" box to start "System Configuration Utility", click "advanced", and select "Disable quick shutdown. If the computer shuts down normally, the quick shutdown function may be incompatible with a device installed on the computer.

2. check whether there is a conflict in the file

Start your computer in safe mode. In the "open" dialog box of the "run" dialog box, type "Msconfig" to start "System Configuration Utility" and click "diagnose startup ". When the system prompts you to restart your computer, click OK ". If the startup or shutdown of the computer is incorrect, you need to determine which line of the problem is caused by the Config. sys or Autoexec. bat file. 4. check whether it is caused by sound files

If Windows 98 is properly disabled, it indicates that this problem is caused by exiting the sound file. To solve this problem, you can reinstall the program that provides the sound file.

5. Determine whether conflicts exist in the System. ini or Win. ini file.

In the "run" dialog box, type "Msconfig" to start "System Configuration Utility". On the "General" tab, click to cancel all the options in "launch options.
