The editor gadgets work well on some versions of Windows like Vista and XP, and not so well on others, due to a specific API call that's required for them to work properly. we decided to torn off the rendered editor gadgets for those OS versions that didn't perform well. we 've since changed that to just warn when you turn those gadgets on with the flagged OS versions, and that will be in the next release.
We got some initial reports that Windows Server 2003 had some performance problems, so we decided to turn them off for that OS. since then several people with Windows Server 2003 have asked to have them on and have not had any problems. to turn them on, open the registry and go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/Microsoft/visualstudio/9.0/slickedit/editorgadgets
and set the "showruler" entry to "true ". once you do that, any editor window you open from then on shoshould have the rworkflow. you'll also find the other editor gadget options under that registry key as well.
